The members here have any suggestions to perform in an all female audience?

Any type of flower tricks. Several that comes to mind, would be the floating rose, the color changing rose, and The Blooming Bouquet.
I would open with a TT and I'd vanish a red silk that was in my lapel, and then I'd light a Red Fantasio Vanishing candle and make a red silk appear, and then replace the red silk that I had previously vanished. I do a floating table routine with a rose in a vase, and I give the rose to a female audience member at the end. Silk tricks would also be cool, I would do parasols from silks. And of course any trick that included a real bunny. Lastly, I would suggest some great background music as well. |

Any tricks that you do well and work for a mixed group work well for this "group".
I perform a fair amount of luncheon shows. I perform for Elks, Moose, and Rotary clubs locally. I also perform for couple of women's only clubs. (Business women of America, Woman's Hospital Axillary, and the like). The act is the same for the all mens as for the all women's ' clubs. I get as good a reaction from one as from the other. They myth is that women and women alone like flower and silk magic. Frankly that might have been more true in the 1950 under Ike but today's modern woman is smart, upwardly mobile, independent thinking, and sharp. Of course the women groups I tend to perform for are Doctors, Professors, lawyers, and business leaders. Most have college degrees and are making six figures. Producing a flower as a give away works in general. By the way, my flower bits play just as well for men (Botania, Fastest trick in the World). In fact at my most recent Elk's luncheon I produced a flower lei (it was a Hawiian theme luncheon) and gave it to my helper of the egg bag routine. The helper was the vice president of the club and what we would call a "man's man". He wore the thing for the entire luncheon and I hear he wore it back to work (Executive of a local electronic firm). I think his daughter ended up with it but the point is he wore it proudly and got to brag about helping do a magic trick when asked about it. I'd say don't insult them with a sexist attitude and demeanor. Play your strongest material to them. Above all don't play down to them.

Don't do the Bra Trick!!!!
Harry is pretty much right on the money with doing the same for both sexes. Play more the background of the people instead of the sex. I did a mother daughter and did a warm fuzzy moment with a 20th century silk routine. They loved it. With guys, I might have done something about get the parts to fit on a outdoor grill or lawnmower. Adapt things to fit your audience's interests. I remember once Hank Moorehouse had released his version of Sidewalk Shuffle using money. He had people call out companies or groups and he adapted the same trick to each group. You don't always need new tricks. You just need to rethink them and present them a little different. That allows you to concentrate on the patter and don't fret about the mechanics. Richard

As long as the tricks don't involve the NFL or testicles they will be fine.
I would say the real question is what are the best presentations to do for a female audience? My answer is "smile". Make them smile. Don't worry so much on fooling them. They aren't paying that much attention in the first place. Focus more on the enjoyment of magic. Randi |

One thing I might add in all seriousness...make SURE if a live animal is used, the UTMOST care is displayed in the treatment of said beast. There is nothing cuter than the production of a live kitten. There is nothing more horrible than the production of an injured (or worse) one.

Man, I guess it is true, Men don't understand Women.
How about doing magic that women would be interested in? Thinks they are familiar with deal with often. How about producing a bottle of perfume, instead of wine bottles or water bottles. |

Mentalism. I killed with Fogel's Second Spot, Confabulation and ala Koran, opened with Linking rings and Malini Egg Bag. They ate up the mental stuff so much several asked me if I did private readings.

Maybe some 'fake' magic, like the paper ball over the head trick. And indeed mentalism!

When performing for an all female audience I would simply pick out the routines in my repertoire that I know are enjoyed by women, luckily for me this seems to be most of my favourite ones. I'd find it a lot harder to perform for an all male audience, to be honest. If I'm playing a comedy club I always hope there are lots of women in the crowd (it's not as pervy as it sounds!). My sense of humour/style seems to be appreciated more by women than by men. |

I also find that mentalism plays very strong with women. But if it's strictly magic you're speaking of, then definitely 20th century Brassiere!

I've found that mentalism works well, also. I would get screams with Mental Yarn, although it's not something that works 100% of the time, despite what Bill Goldman says. Some people don't get out much, so their lack of associations can foil the trick.
Things that happen in their hands can be highly effective. Sponge balls and the egg bag are great! If performing some colorful magic, make sure that the color combinations are tasteful and not gawdy. |
