Mr Hughes!
Thank you for the reply - just that little bit of history sold me on the book! I totally understand not revealing building methods - as you said, spoon feeding the knock off artist - but the history and back stories are wonderful! I vote unless you sell it - take it with you. There are many secrets that are still out there by many who did just that and it makes for great speculation and wonder! I selfishly hope it is Albo like with many color photos cataloging the many wonderful and beautiful items throughout the History of Marshalls and Hughes feather flowers. (and even some of the other stuff you and Horace made - I have a set of his appearing alarm clocks with the ringing display board - they don't all work but a couple of them still do) What is the short story about Charlie and Marshall flowers - are they no longer? or is he out there tinkering away? Again, thank you for the insight - I hope I am not being too pushy about any subject that may be sensitive or too personal. |

He is no longer in business. The stuff he made after Marie died was not all that great. Thanks for understanding my sensitivity to the subject.
Horace made a lot of things other than feather flowers. I have his alarm clocks (nested), Clock to flowers, vanishing clock on trays (54 models), Bwol on pole vanish, Glass on pole vanish, 3 different Parisian Cabinets, Atomic cocktail chaker, Inlaid mahagony die box, head chopper, silks, spring flowers, vanishing drum sticks, Square Circle with bush taller than the tube, thimbles and lots of other things. I don't know how I will do the book. There will be some color but I may do the DVD route as it allows a lower cost of production. The knowledge I have will not just be passed out. I was taught via old school and respect such knowledge greatly. Richard

Hi Mike -
In this photo, I have a pair of 5-bloom poinsettia bouquets. So, there are 10 blooms in the bouquet this photo, because I'm holding 2 as 1. I bought a 5-bloom as a part of bamboo surprise (came with bouquet, mat, and streamer), and then an extra matching bouquet. I have the regular size version of bamboo surprise (there is a larger, deluxe version). I think that Richard also makes 6-bloom, 11-bloom, and 18-bloom poinsettias, too. Just like with his regular flowers. But you should check with him. - Donald P.S. Just to clarify, what I have isn't the bush production. That is different, although it also uses a bamboo mat. I think I saw on his website that the bush production has 12-blooms.

Even as a dealer years ago, I never got into flower productions. I think mostly because I was only exposed to the India feather flowers. After seeing Dynamike's act and hearing the kids response, I am totally sold on them. Now I have to take out small loan to fill the show. Impressive work Mister flower man.

You're welcome, Dynamike.
BTW, I produce the extra bouquet first, before performing the bamboo surprise, as a part of the same flower routine. I use the tamborine production that Richard teaches. Watch the beginning of this (older) promotional video, to see me perform the tamborine production with the poinsettia bouquet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w11Zjos40J8 I don't have my whole routine on this video, just the one bouquet production. It can be performed with larger bouquets, as well. I just happen to have a 5-bloom model. A flower production via tamborine might have a place in your flower act. - Donald

Here is a copy of my version of "Hoopla" as I did it at Abbott's in 2007. Notice the trellis in the background. I found it in the band room and commandeered it into the act for this show.
