Does anyone have or like Dragon Altar?
The effect on the video looks amazing but seen on some site it is one of their less popular tricks.

They said it wasn't as popular as most because it takes a knack to make to make it work every time.
I think it would be a good one to do before or after Crystal Cleaver they look similar.

Also said that it is one time when the noise it makes actually can enhance the effect hahaha.

For me it is not an automatic trick that is 100% successful.

You have to tilt the box to get it to work and that can sometimes be obvious.

It does have a cool gimmick that you would not expect.

It does not come with the coin.

I think with the intended coin it would be easier to do.

Place I got the 2 English Prison Boxes when I asked about the none 100% thing with Altar told me how it works.
So aware of the method but not liking the tilt thing if it is obvious.
He said after you do it many times you can do it smoothly and almost 100%.
But don't know so that's is why I am asking who has it doesn it work or worth getting at all before I get it and it sits in the box cause it won't work. lol

You can get 5 yen coins on ebay for 1.25 plus 2.00 shipping for single ones, roll of 50 for 22.99 free shipping.

There is your answer. "many times" for "almost 100%"

But I would still get it and the price is right. I paid $35 for mine from Maxello in a plastic bag with no coin.

So you have to be careful with a place like Maxello. Some prices are good, some are not.

I still have a bad taste in my mouth for Maxello emptying my cart then jacking up the price of Prison Box on me from 36.95 each with shipping to 44.95 without shipping after asking can you get more before I purchase the last 4 you have.

They absolutely did that and when they seen I did what I said I would do and post what they did here they every so quickly lowered it back down in 5 minutes. Sent me an email the next day saying the price was wrong and is corrected! hahah
I don't think I will ever purchase from them for that unless I have no other choice.

Dragon Altar isn't that bad ... no it doesn't work fluently 100%, sometimes you have to move the box a few times as mentioned in the manual. I also put some piece of a close up mat in the box that helps a bit with the sund if the ball falls in (like with Crystal Pyramid).

The great thing about Dragon Altar is that it can be inspected after the trick (and even before). No one can figure out how to operate it. They try to move the box, tilt the box etc. but they don't succeed because of the ingenious locking mechanism.

Dragon Altar is like most magic, it requires practice to have it work 100% of the time. Even the most simple trick requires an effort to master it, to make it effortless, to make it look natural. I find with practice it works fine, and the sound it makes is "magic happening" right before you! If you are worried about it working 100% of the time, then practice, practice, practice.
Magico-Japan is where I got mine (thru E-bay), and they sent the small Japanese coin to use with it. Plus instructions in English. They have great service there, this item is still only $24.00 plus shipping.

I have mentioned before that Dragon Alter is one of my favorites. I love the method and found a coin that makes this work 100% for me. The coin I use is a little lighter than the one supplied and for me that made a big difference. I agree with 723sabre that a little practise can make this a real fooler. I have never had anyone come close to figuring this one out. I also like that fact that the noise actually makes sense in this effect, unlike some other Tenyos.

Cheers,

John

I wish I could tell you MrWizrad... somwehere in my travels I bought a small assortment of what appears to be very old Asian coins. They are quite thin with a hole in the middle. One if them worked perfectly for this effect and I like the fact it is an old worn coin versus a shiny new one. I can try taking a picture of it and sending it to you if that would help.

No, it looks different and to be honest not even sure if mine are real coins... I think they are and look very old. That coin may work fine. My Dragon Alter did not come with a coin but I thought thay came with a silver coin similar to the one with Super Spike.

MrWizard, that's the coin I have for mine. Works fine for me. Get the trick, you'll have fun with it. Just work on your handling, make up a little patter and let the magic happen. One of the better Tenyo tricks IMHO.

Thanks I will defiantly get it.
I think it looks great.
When I seen the effect on the video I said whoa look at that! Smile
I got lots of Japanese coins just for Tenyo items in advance to getting the tricks!
This kinda resembles Crystal Cleaver with the tall cover and clear box.
I think they are a good pair to show one then the other.
