Hi guys!
Do you guys have any information on how to build or where to buy the 'sucked curtain effect'? Like the one at the beginnig of cirque du soleil's 'O' show, where the curtain is sucked from its center it 'disappears'. I need to do that effect with a 4x4 meters long curtain. I don'd know how to explain myself any better hehehe Thank you! |

This effect is also in the Broadway (West End) production of The Lion King, and is beautiful! It needs to be very lightweight material, I would think.
Will this be horizontal or vertical?
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

I think this effect when executed, is probably as "low tech" as possible. (curtain is attatched with some type of quick release clip, and a stage hand or two pull...)

Or a snow animator turned on its side.
Would like to see a video of this F/X... |

Very nice. After watching this, I realize I was mistaken -- it's a snow animator turned upside down.

The same effect was used at the end of the show "Carnaval of Wonders" featuring Mark Kalin & Jinger and Jeff Hobson. In my opinion their presentation of the effect looked a little bit more magical since the stage drapé disppeared in a bag put center stage. It was the same bag that Mark Kalin entered the stage with in the beginning of the show, and he ends the show picking up this bag with the stage drapé in it and leaves the stage.
Dany Lary from France featured this effect in the beginning of one of his egyptian themed illusion act. He's holding a little box between his hands, while the stage drapé he's standing behind disappears in it. Oliver. |

Thank you guys for all the examples.
It would be horizontal. Any ideas? All the best. |

I saw Galina do this on the one of the "World's Greatest Magic" shows. Wow....it was great! She drew the large silk streamer into her torso. She had a really tight outfit on, so it was remarkable to me. If I remember correctly, she turned her back to the audience (and camera) momentarily, so I am assuming that is when the hook-up occurred, but I don't know where she could have been hiding anything in those tights! I'm not sure how she accomplished it, but it was a fantastic effect!

There are many ways to do this.
low tech version stage hands running off backstage with the cloth or some productions (with large budgets) use air compressor rig. Any stage company can build you this rig. But it will cost you some $$$ I also agree the use of this in Carnival- is the best and is just a perfect closer very magically |
