Ok so check ths out I did 5 shows this weekend all communions. At the first one the kids had a great time, they were laughing, participating, and having a blast. I even did some very cool mentalism for the adults. After the show the dad comes up to me and says "I guess we don't have time to see something exciting like a levitation." Now the rest of the adutts were having a good time and many came up to me and said they loved it. I wanted to tell him that maybe if I pulled a rabbitt out of my ass that might be more exciting for him, but I just let the comment slide, packed up and left. That was on Saturday.
On Sunday I had some time between shows or so I thought that I decided to go home shower again and re-energize. Then I get a call from the client and he says your are supposed to be at my party at 3:30. The call came in at 4. Luckily I only live 5 min from where the party was. So I get there ask for the party and the manager leads me into a room and I start to set up. I apologize for being late and the client tells me your are early you don't start until 5. Now I was confused and toldl her someone just called and told me I was late. then another magician shows up and he was in the wrong room too. Finally I get to the room, apologize to mom and dad . Start the show and make one more humorous apology to the guests. While moving my stuff in I hear some of the guests saying well at least he made it. I hate omments like those because this is the frst time in over 500 shows that this has happened. I start the show the dad is like giving me the evil eye wathcing all ****ed off, and who could blame him. But as the show progressed and he saw the kids having a great time he started to as well. The other adults were laguhing and saying how did he do that, they were applauding. I ended with a routine for the adults and the kids helped. It was Max Krauses Mentalists Dream Box. Well worth the money since it saved my ass. At the end most of the adults came up to me to offer wonderful praise and everyone seemed to forget about the tardiness. After I was all packed up I went over to the dad, and we talked about the mixup. I did get him to agree it worked out fine that everyone seemed to enjoy, and then he went to pay me, and I told him the show was on me. He was surprised. I told him that I had kept him and his guests waiting, and that was not right since it was my mistake. He insisted that I take something. He ended up giving me half to which I turned around and gave it back to his wife. They were speechless. I could have taken the money, but I really did not feel it was right. My reputation is more important to me than the few hundred bucks. Afterwards when I got home there was a message on my machine from the client telling me they would like to book me for their daughters birthday next month. When I re-checked my book on my new ipad the showtime was listed at 5. When I checked my invoice the time said 3:30. While entering the info into my ipad I made the mistake. Now I have re-checked the times for all of my shows because I am averging about 6 shows on the weekends from now until June. |
