Wow,Have I had to work on many of these above mentioned, gaffs that make a noise, angles that have been perceived, spectators walking around the back of a performance, Yes all been expressed on here before, I dare say many ,many times ,just a mental note to oneself and others ,all the above, if not controlled can mess a whole routine right up,so all the prep and practice has to be done again and again eliminating any faults and bad practice, sorry to bring this up ,but with out all this being in controll our art would not be worth its salt, just a few observations from spec's, I very much value their views and opinion's, I learn and get better from my mistakes and I am not frightened to admit that I do make them from time to time, trick is to cover them up,easy way out ,NO, don 't make them ,get it right ,first time round.

Was going to post this elsewhere but just a few problems even a Pro performer gets occasionally..

I had a show a week ago, big one over 350-400 people and run into the following problems
that I always have verified prior to a show starting...usually a contract and I always check the venue for power points,
sight lines etc etc days prior but couldn't get any access...

Questions I asked as routine..Answer below from hirer, Reality on night!

-Is there a stage-audience need to see me
-Yes a big stage
-A 10inch high platform 6-8 feet across

-Is there a change room
-Yes
-Toilet worked well!!!!

-Is there a carpark so I can park close to unload when I arrive early
-Yes
-Gates locked [parked on street

-Are there any other performers
-No only you
-2 large dance productions later heres the magician

-Can I have access to the hall earlier than guests
-Yes no problem
-Arrived doors locked, waited over an hour

-Due to angles & best views for audience no tables for guests close to stage
-No Problem
3 mins before starting 2 tables put on line with platform & 20 guests seated

-Do you have lighting for the stage, Spots etc
-Yes
-Poor wall lighting-had to get my light spares from car

-I need all the audience facing the stage
-Yes no problem
-Had to turn over 200 people with backs to stage

-Will the bar be closed during show so no noise etc
-Yes we can do that
-Bar left open-heaps of noise down the back, was fighting background noise even with mics

-How many people attending
-Between 80-120
-Around 400 guests arrive!!!

Are there any children as I mainly perform for older crowds as my promo material I sent you
Maybe 10-15-all adults perfect for your show
Over 50-100 kids...

Do you have a budget-I can help you here for the type of show
We will pay you cash on the night
Paid later by cheque so Im paying tax now as well after giving discount

Can I set up the show about 30 mins including PA & Speakers etc in private
Yes no problem
Had a audience of very interested adults...

and the most interesting:

5 mins before my show time
Im all set up ready to go,final loads etc, mp3 & mics all ready

Brent can you move all your stuff off the stage!!
yes we have the childrens Bollywood production dances...

Also I told the MC 3times I would announce myself with music intro etc
so after the dance production with all my stuff off the platform he introduces me.................

You get the idea-the whole event was the exact opposite of what was requested
It was a tough show but worked -I cut it short , they liked it, I got paid & discreetley left..
doesn't matter what is asked.. strikes us all at times

Cheers

Brent
