I'm 47 and when I was small I vividly remember watching the Amazing Kreskin on tv. fast forward many years and he came to my town in Arkansas and I had to go. As fate would have it he picked my 'then' wife out of the crowd and proceeded to discern her vocation, our anniversary and my birthday as well as our phone number. everyone around us kept asking if we worked for him. it was a magical night indeed.
"He's a miracle waiting for us to happen."

Dave's wife (who is a lovely woman) was the most animated and entertaining subject of the second half.
Dave and I threw all kinds of questions at her after the show and l she legitimately did not remember a thing except that maybe he played the piano at some point. My favorite line was toward the beginning of the performance: "What are you doing bringing that baby in here? This isn't some magic show." |

I'd love to speak with others who have seen this tour. It would be quite interesting and educational.
I probably learned more that night than when I gave the Drunk Johnson Twins a long ride back to their Single Wide in Don's Trailer Park!!!! (They were girls ....... pretty sure)

What would you say the percentage of mentalism vs. magic vs. stories/etc. makes up his show nowadays?
|
|||||||||
DT3 Inner circle Hill Valley 1920 Posts |
Magic 5%
Mentalism 75% Hypnosis 25% Sorry for not putting a percentage on the story telling as that was a big part of each of the above mentioned components. I may be wrong but that's how it seemed to me. I talked with many "un-initiated" folks in the interval and afterwards. It occured to me that K is a master of demographics. |

During a performance in Fairfax, Va, in February 2008, Kreskin left the orchestra level of the theater, strode up to the balcony, moved to the row of seats where I was seated, and demanded to look for his paycheck inside the black shopping bag I held against my chest.
I first saw Kreskin, now 76, more than 30 years ago when he performed at the symphony hall in my home town of Springfield, Mass. I was intrigued by his TV show, “The Amazing World of Kreskin,” which ran for 4 seasons in the early 1970s, in which he appeared to read peoples’ thoughts, see into the future, and cause objects to move by the power of his mind. I remember my excitement one Christmas when my parents bought me a “Kreskin Test Your ESP” board game. When I learned that he would be performing just a few miles from my home four years ago, I called a buddy in Annapolis, and said “let’s go!” That is how my friend Michael and I found ourselves seated in the balcony of the Wolftrap theater, watching Kreskin perform his signature demonstration — locating his paycheck, hidden in the audience. I hadn’t expected to be part of Kreskin’s show, but suddenly there he was, staring me down at the end of the aisle. Kreskin is intimidatingly tall and with a commanding voice that has deepened over time. He is no longer the nervous, skinny, slightly goofy character he presented in his early years on TV. Now a seasoned performer who is very much in charge when he is in public, he directed Michael, me and others to stand to allow him to pass by us and move along our row. However, when he reached me, Kreskin stopped, turned, eyed me curiously, and began slowly waving his hands around my shoulders and then over the bag I was holding. “This is strange,” he intoned, adjusting his glasses and pursing his lips. “I have this impression... that I’m looking… at myself. Is it possible… that you… have a …a …picture of me… in that bag? Yes? Really? I knew it! The sensation was so strong! Could you open the bag and show me – show everyone – what you’re hiding in that bag?” I had brought with me, wrapped in black paper inside a black paper bag, my Kreskin ESP board game in the hopes that I might meet him and ask for his autograph after the show. Kreskin was as delighted with his “hit” as I was fascinated with the range of possible explanations. How could he know? I’d told only my pal about my plans and the contents of the bag. The light in the balcony was dim and the dark bag nearly blended in with my dark clothes. The distraction of this discovery cost Kreskin several minutes as he focused on me, asking if I was also concealing his check — “which is close by. It’s here, somewhere. I can feel it,” he said. Eventually Kreskin located his check, which was concealed under the, uh, posterior of another audience member about 8 seats away from us at the other end of our row of seats. After the show, Kreskin chatted with me and other fans, posed for pictures and signed autographs. I've been studying magic and mentalism for 40 years, and this experience gave me something to think about. Kreskin's slogan, is “I know what you’re thinking.” Jeez, after this encounter, I have to wonder...Maybe he does!? |

Great story, volcane!
Kreskin came to West Virginia University when I was a sophomore (way back in 1976)and he was ... Amazing. After the performance, he met with people from the audience. I had two broken arms (long story for another time) and I asked him to autograph one of my casts. He pounded me on the shoulder for what seemed like thirty seconds, commenting on the casts, and then signed one - ESPecially, Kreskin! And it sounds like his performance is the same now, as then. Don't fix it, if it ain't broken. |

Your in box is full, so here is my pm:
I saw him in January of this year. It was an unique show as only maybe 150 people were there and he was sick. We sat in the fourth row (really the second of the theatre but they added 2 rows of chairs) we could have moved up at any time but the seats were good. I assisted with a card effect and was later "hypnotized" staying all the way to the end. S |
