So my complexion is naturally oily, and I'm having trouble keeping my false moustache on.

I've tried spirit gum, and latex, and both with the gum outlining the moustache and the latex in the middle.

Not working.

Advice?

Thanks,

Do you thoroughly clean and dry the application area before applying the moustache? Like clean the area with alcohol or a cleanser that can break down and wash away any oil. I never had any problems with latex sticking-- it is usually a job to scrub it/peel it off!

Spirit gum won't even hold? Wow. I've never heard of that happening before. I guess you could...um....just wow. Yosef_dov pretty much sums it up, though. Just make sure the area is clean and dry before you apply the mustache. Hope you find something that works!

Jeze guys, I learned at age 5 to wash my face properly.

I'm trying another spirit gum "p", and see how it goes.

How you apply the spirit gum and the type you use makes a big difference. Ben Nye Make-Up is hands down the best in my experience, but it's also very expensive. First use a facial astringent like Seabreeze to clean the area. Allow this to dry thoroughly. Blot it with a clean, lint free cloth and fan your face with a piece of cardboard. Brush a thick coat of spirit gum on with 1/2" wide flat tip brush. I use Ben Nye brushes as well, they are pricey but very high quality and you won't get bristles stuck on your face. Be sure to clean your brush with remover immediately. You'll ruin it if it dries out with gum in it. Maybe you're already doing this next step, but some people don't know this: Take your index finger, clean it with the Seabreeze and dry it with a clean, lint free cloth. After the gum has begun to dry a little, begin dabbing the entire area with the pad of your index finger. The gum should start to get very, very sticky. Don't overdo this step, there's at which point you have to stop dabbing and apply the mustache while the gum is at its stickiest. All I can say is experiment with this. Be sure to clean your finger with remover before you pick up the mustache! It also helps to have a good quality mustache made of human hair with a fine nylon mesh backing. Franco and Rubies both make good ones. When you apply the mustache, make an exaggerated smile with your upper lip down over your front teeth. This will stretch your upper lip area. Do this as far as you can and hold it. Apply the mustache while the lip is in this state then relax your face and continue to press the mustache down. Check to make sure that all parts of the mesh are adhereing to your skin. This procedure will keep the mustache from breaking loose when you smile or make other broad expressions. If you use it alot, you will need to periodically clean the build up of gum on the mesh with spirit gum remover. Be very careful when cleaning the brands of mustaches I mentioned because they are set with a hair spray to hold their shape. If your get remover on the hair it wil break down the hair spray and lose its shape. Be sure to use the same brand of remover as your gum. Ben Nye's is formulated to work with their gum. Finally, you'll need to apply some transluscent face powder to area around the mustache to control sweat and oil. Since you have oily skin, you may want to apply the powder to you entire face. Use a very small amount of powder, and apply it with a large sized powder brush. This will take the shine off your face. Pay special attention to the nose and forehead. One of the worst things I've ever had happen is I got a runny nose once. If I think that might be a problem, I take an over the counter antihistamine before I perform. Finally, some people like to put on make-up before they put on their costume, mainly because of powder. I like to get dressed first and use a make-up bib to protect my clothes. I hope all this helps you.
