I just got my custom two tailed New York quarter and man
does it look good. Anyone use a two headed or two tailed coin in their routines?
...think not that all wisdom is in your school. You may have studied other paths, but, it is important to remember that no matter who you are or where you come from, there is always more to learn.

Nope, not me. Can you explain an effect with this?

I do. It is a routine I use all the time in my close-up work and it is in my book.

I found this old post because of a search. I'm trying to figure out a use of a two tailed half dollar with no dates. Johnson Products, Liberty Half, but I'm at a loss on what to do with it.

Michael Rubinstein has an effect called "smiley" in which he uses a double sided quarter. This is effective because it can be borrowed. Maybe it would inspire you somehow? He sells it over on the website for the New York Coin Seminar and it might be on one of the dvds also.
Good luck! Harry |

Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out. I don't think I can "borrow" a standing liberty half, but maybe the rest of it might work out for me. Thanks again.

I designed a sophisticated routine but experience shows that double sided coins effects are only workable for very small audiences at very close quarters. Nice for amateurs, not so practical for professional work.

Well, amateur is what I am. I do parlor magic in my home at frequent dinner parties. I'm developing a bed and breakfast where I'll be performing in a parlor designed for just that, but the "crowd" will probably never be over a couple dozen. I know uses for the double headed coin (e.g., Leftover Chnage), but the tails on both sides I don't know......... Is your routine for a two-tailed coin?

I like Michael's smiley routine. While he had a "Heads" coin, that would work on a tailed coin as well. The standing/walking liberty has a large eagle on the back. I wonder if a different design with the sharpie that relates to the eagle might be possible. Have to think on that....

1. Draw some eggs under the eagle
2. Make one hatch 3. Bring in an egg instead of a button 4. Carry on with whatever routine you have that requires an egg... Could be a nice way to cause a coin to reappear. Perform a vanish of a coin, whatever, then proceed to your "next trick", eventually ending with the egg that you get your production from. Even better if the coin you use was left over from whatever the vanish was from. CSB ending with tails half gaff to egg to reproduction of C and S? Too crazy?

Meshuggina, those are all great ideas! Thank you for the suggestions. The CSB ending might be a little crazy, but it sounds like fun!

You can have a double facer with a group of other quarters and put them in a glass and shake them up or have someone do this. Upon dumping them out, you remove all tails coins and repeat. It goes without saying that you shouldn't use too many coins or this will take forever. Repeat this procedure until only the double facer (header) is left and have someone note the date. I carry a magnifying glass. Anyway, rather that do this as a prediction stunt straight, turn it to a book test where the first two numbers, let's say 19 of a hypothetical 1938 date, are used to find a page and the 38 is the 38th word on that page and that matches the prediction. This gives you time to put the coins away. Old but not many laymen know it.

There's an interesting three-part routine by Ray Grismer called "The Janus Predictions" in "Spectacle" by Stephen Minch.
