Does anyone know of a supplier on line for 3/8 braided white core rope? Baronian trading is sold out and I am in need of some. Any help would be great and thanks. RNM

I use Abbott's Rope, email them for the diameter of this rope as they use to sell several different sizes.
http://www.abbottmagic.com/Rope-216-Foot......oryId=-1 They also carries a 1/4 inch size. http://www.abbottmagic.com/Rope-300-ft-1-4-inch-we00020.htm |

Is that Abbott's rope really 1/4" or is the standard magic shop 7/32" cheapo crap? Most magic shops sell the cheapo rope, and claim that is all they can get these days. I bought a 1,600 ft spool of real 1/4" rope several years ago and I'm beginning to panic because I'm down to my last several hundred feet, but I can't lower my standards and use that bailing twine they try to pass of for magicians rope these days.

Not everybody is interested in a 216 ft spool of 3/8" rope. The Daryl rope comes in about 16' pieces.

I don't know how they measure rope in the textile industry. I have used this kind of rope for over 50 years. Here is another rope that Abbott's sells, they just call it Deluxe, so you would have to contact them for the diameter. it is a closer weave and come in 30 foot lengths for only $9. And, it is made in the U.S.A. |

Every rope dealer I see at conventions sells rope that is less than 1/4", and the stuff I used to buy anywhere 20 years ago was a bit thicker. I sent a piece of the stuff I presently use to my friend Neal Prete, and he is trying to come up with the real thing for me, so I can get another 1,600 ft spool. If you would like I can send a piece to you so you can see what I'm talking about.

Al, the problem is that most of the textile companies in the east have went out of business or been bought out and downsized in America. I am sure along with that, they have stopped making many of the sizes from years ago.
That is the price we are paying a global economy. India has taken over the rope market like a lot of other markets including Magic. There will be a time when they drop it, and other 4th world countries takes over. Abbott's use to carry 4 thickness of rope, now they carry 2. Years ago, Greg Bordner told me their manufacturer had moved and left no address, after much searching, he had found them sold to a company across the street from their old address. I use to use the thicker rope, but for the banquet shows I do, this size is okay for me. |

Ian,
The rope on your site: whose is that? Loftus or Baronian? (Talking about the 300' balls). Also, which sizes? Thanks! Jim |

IIRC, I think all Loftus rope on Ian's site is cotton.

Well, am I dumb.... the loftus rope is ALL COTTON. The reason there is a melt factor was the dye on the colored rope I burned. The Loftus rope IS ALL COTTON according to Loftus.
