Hmmm... I'm considering getting 'hot leads'. so can anyone tell me if I need to change my ignition unit, considering that I'm buying it now, which should be the newer unit??? Also, what kind of wallet is it?? I need to know if I can actually use it as a wallet on a perm basis. thanks!!

Its a buisness card wallet... very nice for holding your own and other's buisness cards.... I really don't think it could be used as a whole wallet.

Maybe if you bought a thesaurus you would not only UNDERSTAND what he said, but you might not feel so threatened that you have to resort to attacks to make yourself feel like an equal. Oh wait, I just attacked you for no apparent reason. I blindly made assumptions without really knowing anything about you. Maybe that was wrong to do.... what do you think?? Dan |

I didn't 'make fun' of anyone. I'll grant you that it wasn't 'friendly' but the painfully studied choice of words followed by "I always speak with fluidity and precision" was a bit too much to let pass without comment. Straightjacketing 'big words' into an otherwise ordinary bit of writing is a terrific way to ensure that you're being neither fluid nor precise. In other words, be natural. Otherwise you end up with constructions like "an exemplum for all to emulate, nes pas?" which to me just sounds smug and completely punchable, apart from the misspelling of "n'est pas?" by someone who claims to study French. |

Hey, let's drop this debate about DaffyDoug's vocabulary. It is really off-topic!
I would, however, like to come to DaffyDoug's defense in one respect. That is -- the right of any Café member like him to post an honest but critical review of a product. I myself am no critic of Hot Leads. In fact, my local magic dealer demo'd it in his shop for me and another magician and we were both impressed, and it sure seemed to be working fine (I assume he has the newer type of ignition systems). But when it comes to "real world" problems that are never mentioned in the advertisement and praise for a product, "I feel your pain," Daff, as Bill Clinton used to say. DaffyDoug tried to objectively report what actually happened to him in the real world when he used Hot Leads. He concluded there were some negatives that detracted from the magic, specifically an audible "click." One of the reasons I spend time on the Magic Café is to hear about real-world problems like that. For every problem there is a potential solution. But as magicians we are living in la-la land if we pretend such problems don't exist. I once bought a $1,000 stage prop that I noticed in practice made a loud noise at a key magical moment. (A noise that would be a potential giveway that detracted from the illusion.) The inventor and seller of the product assured me, "In all my performances yadda yadda yadda. people have NEVER noticed the noise." Well in my very first performance with it, a friendly spectator afterward remarked to me about having heard the tell-tale noise!!!! That taught me a lesson. (Don't ask me exactly what I learned from it -- only to be a bit more skeptical as a buyer of magic products!). Again, I am not speaking with any special knowledge or opinion about Hot Leads. I'm sure Jim, the inventor, is a great guy. And this product seems to have a lot of merit. But all sincere posts expressing negative as well as positive experiences with a product should be never be discouraged on Magic Café! Steve Hoffman Takoma Park MD |

I have been using hot leads for some time, it has never failed me. I have no problem with the ignition system, and the flames on the cards are always impressive and well received.
I do believe common sense is advisable when ever using fire, however the effect is srong, and it does create (in my experiances) a very posative reaction. It is the way, I believe a magician should hand out their busines card, if they want the spectacular. ArthurAtsma |

Daff,
I just read a few of your posts. I have a whopping 12th grade education with a D+ average in anything that was important ( except ART ) and I have to say I had NO PROBLEMS understanding a single word you used and it's context etc. I must admit I read a bit after High School and LISTEN to life as it goes by but overall it is a SAD commentary on how the basic education standards have degenerated to a 6th grade level. If anybody is challenged by your diction...I worry about who will be running the country when I am a cranky old man. Keep it up and make some people think out there! Ya got my support ...oh, I think Hot Leads is a GREAT IDEA! Arthur gave me his personal review and I am placing my order tommorow. Chance Wolf

Well maybe we could sent Jim back our "old" lighter but that would be A COST for us that live outside USA.
Maybe for the people who living in USA, that cost is doesn't mean anything but for us that live outside USA, to send a small item via airmail ??? Still I'm thinking this products is bad.. I should not trust the video demo... How fool am I.... |
