Here's a site that shows the effect in what looks like step-by-step photos:
http://www.magical-tricks.com/files/firewalletbig.jpg It's interesting that, according to these pictures, the card isn't lit until it's completely out of the wallet. Although in all fairness it probably happens so quickly that in the minds of the audience the card was on fire from the moment they first saw it. |

Zach,
You can also order it directly from Jim. Call him at 503-288-3775. I know he is up to ears in puting more together, this has been a "hotter" product for him than Afterburn. Seth |

That's certainly true about Penguin's prices, although lately I've begun to feel that it's offset by problems I've had with order fulfillment.
I seem remember hearing that they've merged with another dealer, and wonder if that's had something to do with it. I've always loved Penguin, but I'm wondering if I might be better paying a bit more and actually getting what I order and in decent time! |

Seems like the effect sounds exactly like the trick "Afterburn" which is electronic. But it looks like the difference is that it uses butane. Therefore, no more batteries to replace? And no glowplug to mess with? Hmmmmmm. Sounds good if my guess is right.

I have some questions about "Hot Leads"
Do we have to put some "flash cotton" on our card? or just some "fluid butane refill"? Is it reliable? Hope you could help me to decide whether I have to buy it or not. Hengky |

Thanks for the lead for "Hot Leads"! Not only did Hocus Pocus have the item in stock, but the price was even lower than Penguin! By four dollars! I'm gonna print my new cards now! |

Those of you who are familiar with Pace's Afterburn will be pleasantly surprised by Hot Leads. No more flash cotton, no more nichrome wire, no more battery pack. It's very well put-together.
I should warn those of you who use certain business cards, BOTH Afterburn and Hot Leads may melt your cards if you use raised inks and certain types of thin papers. You should use very standard services (i.e., standard paper stock or half standard/half glossy etc.) when creating your business cards in order to use this effect. Also, the instructions do not mention the fact that you should NEVER inhale to blow out the card near the flaming card itself as you will inhale tons of noxious fumes. Cough, cough! Other than that, there are no other limitations I can think of... |

Well, I got my from Hocus Pocus. I ordered it Friday night and it got to me Monday in Columbus, Ohio. Now that's good service. I didn't know anything about afterburn but I was pleasantly surprised when I opened Hot Leads. Seems very simple. I'm going to try it tonight and will post a review. My cards are laminated on one side so I will be interested to see how they work.
My one negative is that the instructions are horrible. It's not that difficult to figure out but given the nature of the effect and the dangers involved (and the fact that I'm a lawyer), I would think they would want more detailed and clear instructions. |

I got my Hot LEads the other day and I was wondering if anyone else was having problems with the firing mechanism? I filled the mechanism with what was needed, but it is ver sparse when it would fire. There is no consistency, and it has gotten very frustrating.
Before I return it hoping that it is just a defective mechanism, has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what did you do to rectify it? Jeff

I have had the same problem. When it does light, it is only a brief spurt of fire. Sometimes it takes a few attempts. I haven't tried to refill mine so that might be the problem. I'm going to try that and see if the problem is fixed.
