I have a very old effect called "Rainbow Silks", or on the instruction sheet "Rainbow Hanky" made by Means Magic, from Japan. From the box, which I still have, it says "T-23" on it.

The blurb on the box says - "You tie a red and green silk together, and place them into a glass. Show a rainbow silk, and vanish - the silk is found now to be tied in between the red and green."

Here is the problem. This thing is about a 25 + years old, and the silks are tired. I would love to get this out of the closet and back into the show. Where and I find a silk which is red on one end, and green on the other -- with white or yellow in between?

I have looked at this forum, and I suppose I ** could ** tie dye one, but it looks to be a major project with little chance for success, especially for just one unit.

There has to be a unit like this out there, and I have looked at Klamm, Magic Warehouse, Abbots and several other web dealers who sell silk, LOTS of solid units, but no unit which could work for this application.

OR is this just another old effect which goes into storage as a memory of days gone bye? // The other thought is -- IS this effect still available?

The silks are 12 inch silks. ALSO very thin -- just asking if anyone knows anything about this one.

Cordially,

Mitch

It sounds like a 20th Century Silk Set (some sets are sold with 2 different coloured silks, instead of 2 silks that match in colour, as the 2 outside silks).

Some versions have a rainbow silk that ends up in the middle.

Does it have to be the specific colour scheme that you mentioned?

You can buy a variety of rainbow silks. I know some are made by Goshman.

Google (18" rainbow silk magic) or (18" multi color silk magic) as keywords, or whatever size you want. An example:

P.S. Here's a good thread to read as an introduction to 20th Century Silks.

I have looked at both of these, and am considering getting one set or the other. Actually it doesn't matter much if it is a "rainbow" silk in the middle, or something else. I would guess that the "bra" - "panties" - "shorts" - or anything else which gets tied in the middle uses the same gaff methods.

Thanks for the information.

Be sure to re-read my post. I edited my post right up until you made your post.

They also sell 20th century silk sets, where a solid colour silk or even a message silk ends up in the middle.

Mitch,

I sent you an email.

Currently 20th Century Silks are available with solid color center (the vanished one) silks or printed silks:

Zebra Stripe
Happy Birthday
Thank You
The End
Rainbow (4 color)

You can essentially pick any of 13 colors.

I make all kinds of tie dyes and can do custom three color silks if needed.

Bob -

In this post, you mentioned a 20th Century Silk Set, with a "Happy Birthday" Silk in the middle. Can I get more information about that?

I know that Ken Scott also sells a Happy Birthday 20th Century Silk Set. (Picture silk in the middle of a 20th Century set, and also a Blendo at the end).

And I know that Tommy James also sells a Happy Birthday Banner 20th Century Silk Set.

Is yours a different Happy Birthday picture silk? I also might be interested in "The End" and "Thank You" 20th Century Silk Sets.

Also, do these sets come with a (matching) silk to vanish?

Hello Donald,

Yes, all DoveLite 20th Century Silks come with an extra silk to vanish that matches the center silk. My silks are all actually 100% China Silk. (Many advertised "Silk tricks" are not 100% silk if silk at all.)

The picture on Ken Scott's Birthday silk is most like mine. Of course you have many choices of colors for end silks.

These are made for the pros and rarely even available to magic dealers. Amoung the differences, the pro models of the 20th Century Silks have a shadow panel inside the pocket that stops color flashing through the other silk in bright stage lights. (The gimmick is not two 18" squares sewn together.)

This from actual users should help.

Here is another good thread to help you learn the differences and some uses.

Hi Bob -

I sent you an email to continue our conversation, and my request for information on your silks. I'd like to see a photo of the picture silk, get information about prices and selection, etc.
