I have a gig coming up where I am supposed to set off a LOT of mouse traps off on my tongue in a short period of time. Over 40 in a minute to be exact. I've never done this many or this fast. Any tips on how to be this fast and how to take that much abuse? I'm practicing, but it is proving to be more painful that I thought. Much appreciated!

Oh... boy. That does not sound like a lot of fun.
Have a snow-cone or a slushie handy afterwards, for sure... maybe numb your tongue up beforehand with some ice, too. Good luck! |

If you blow-torched the springs a tad, would they weaken enough to help, to make it more tolerable? I'd sure try the full 40 once, first, before the show to see what happens to your tongue.
If your tongue swells up enough, you croak. Just sayin'.

I know that a similar gaffing is done with bear-trap styled tricks. It'd probably work with mouse traps.
Or... if they are not going to be inspected, you could remove one of the springs from them. They still snap shut satisfyingly quick but it lessens the force. |

According to this, 40 is the current record. Why not go for 41? As for getting ready, theres a thread in here somewhere about Gwad doing it. He had some words that may help iirc.

They do inspect them. I cant gaff. Normally during a show I will do half springs... I don't think it will work this time.. this is legitimate Guinness records people watching me set these. Sweet Pepper Klopek has the record at 40, I guess I mean I have to do at least 40. I will try for 41 but the way practicing has been going, I will be lucky to do half...

Ahh, so they are probably going to be the ones providing the traps, huh?
As a medical professional (all three years of school so far), I'd recommend pre-medicating with some anti-inflammatory medicines. Find ones that normally work well for you, look up their onset time and their peak, and take them that far ahead of time. It's not cheating, because they are not analgesia; they're just to keep your tongue from turning into a grapefruit. Also... I'd probably keep them around after the event, too. Ice is still the most important factor, but that will help as well. Edit: a compression bandage afterward will help too, but I am not sure they make such things for tongues... You could always ask your dr. for advice about this. |

I know aspirin is a blood-thinner; aren't most OTC anti-inflammatories, too? That would lead to some nasty bruising and possible bleeding.

They do increase the risk of bleeding, but not to the point of worry unless you already have a bleed or are planning invasive surgery. |

This is for a new show on TRU tv called "Guinness World Records Gone Wild". They will fly me out to LA. As far as I know It is an all expense paid trip. I may get a little money for appearing (I've read participants get $100... Woopty do...). And I will be on TV... HOPEFULLY good (free) publicity.
Im wondering IF/WHEN I lose, is there a good way to spin this? Can I say "AS SEEN ON TRU TV" On my website? Is it worth it to just get a free trip to LA if I look bad on cable tv? |

Seems like a bad deal to me unless you think you can win. Win or lose your tongue will be messed up for a few days and eating high on the hog on their dime will have to be done before hand. Having said that, I'd probably do it. If nothing else it'll make a great bar story. You only live once and all that.

I would be there for 2 or 3 days and leave very soon after the attempt. I will try to win, but if nothing else, like you say, cool story...

The Guinness shows I've been on have paid ALOT more than that. This new tru tv show is nothing more than a reality show just slightly above the level of America's got talent. My Two Cents.
