I was kinda curious as to what some of you here think of the Matrix effect, and which version you like to use. Smile

Hi.

I use two different matrix effects, each for different occasions.

One of them I made up, the other I got from Paul Cummin's video, Up in Smoke.

The other, which I use for Valentine's day and any other romance-themed occasion is called Matrix in Love, and is up on my website.

My favorite matrix effect is that of David Williamson’s from his book Williamson’s Wonders.

The coins collect in one corner just as any other matrix effect, but in this one the cards stay at least 2 inches above the table.

No. 2 Would have to be, "Shadow Coins" Ammar...

Colombini's versions of the Matrix are outstanding, with the coins almost appearing all under one card, but instantly separating under each card again as in the beginning of the effect.

Gotta love anything that uses what the spectators think they know against them...

I perform the version I posted on my site. It's really simple, but I prefer the fanning cover, rather than the slide cover (when you pick up the coins). Just check out the manual under Coins and click on the Matrix.

You know, J.C. Wagner has a pretty good version called "Poor man's Matrix" with a Chop cup style ending.

Take care,

I have the "Coin card" gimmick by Danny Archer. I use this to produce four coins, then I do a normal coin matrix. It really adds to the effect, and the coins appear from nowhere!!

Is this gimmick any good? I've heard some questionable things about it. I like your idea though.

Danny gave me one of his "Coin Cards" a long time ago. With practice(is there any other way?)this little device can be quite handy!

Just my two cents. Smile

I've used several matrix routines over the years but one which I enjoy is by Bob Kohler, published in John Bannon's "Impossibilia". Check it out, but I dont recommend the book, just some of it's routines. In all, I dont think the book is very good.

I like the one that's in Henry Hay's

Hi Kirby,

Yes it’s great, but it’s just about the same as Don England’s Silver Streak. It’s in Apocalypse Vol.3 no. 12. Don uses tape to make the gimmick. Danny uses glue. It looks nicer but no one is going to see it anyway.

Don’s inspiration came from A gimmick of Paul Harris’. So Danny did not change it that much. So what you have is A nicely put together gimmick of Don’s Silver Streak.

Hi Steve,
Matrix is my first love! I have only A 100 or so handling for it.
So stop me when you see one you like.

You look in just about any of my books and you will see 1 or 2 routines for it. 4-2-1 or no cards. International, reverse, backfire, changer, tri-changer, you name it I have most likely got a handling for it. So yea you might say I like it. Thanks.

Gee David, I'm lucky just to remember a couple(well). You sound like a very prolific performer, perhaps some day we might meet...I would enjoy that very much. Smile

Hi Steve,

I can’t remember that many (the 100) But I have come up with that many. Smile if they are not in print they're in my video note books. If you are ever in the Denver Co. Area, let me know and we will get together. Thanks.

I have used Aldo Columbini's "Snappy" as seen on Ammars Money Magic Video.

I've also grown quite fond of Lee Asher's Hole In The Head finish for a matrix routine as found on "Well Done". As a guy who does mainly cards, I don't do a lot of coin magic, but I love Dai Vernon's "Queens Soiree" card matrix.
