I have posted this before, and I will post again. This is for iPod touch, iPhone and iPad users who want to use the ijet Nav remote.
1. Launch 'Music' on the device and hit play for any track. You should hear the music coming thru the internal speakers.
2. Connect the ijet receiver to the port on the bottom of the device.
3. After a few seconds, the sound will stop coming out the internal speakers, as soon as this happens, connect your line out to the headphone socket.
4. Quit music and switch to Show Cues.
5. Set up tracks/playlists as required
6. Check play, pause, volume etc via the remote - you should be good to go.

If you still have issues, try resyncing the remote as per ijet instructions.
If this still doesn't resolve the problem try new batteries in the remote.

Usually you can just unplug the cable or headset and plug it back in. That solves the problem for me but normally if I plug them in with the correct order, I don't have a problem. Like I said, try to unplug and re-plug in the cable.

Thanks Gary, your detailed method will also work.
