As Cardguy starts topic about these kind of puzzle. I contribute one, my friend ask this at a party and get a crowd involved with lots of weird questions : ) Same rules, yes/no answer only.

A naked woman is found dead on a lone island in the ocean. The only thing she has on her is her hand holds an unlit match. Why and how did she die?

The why ... seems like 'short match' draw among people might work.

As to how… ???

Only enough room on the homemade life raft to escape the island for N people; she was N+1 who drew the short match? They took her clothes to help hold the raft together and she starved to death/died of exposure.

Maybe hot air balloon…?
Too many people were on board, one had to jump.

That’s right, “hot air balloon” is the answer!

Maybe they try to get rid of the clothes to lose weight...

Anyways, almost each lateral-thinking puzzle assumes a very "sterile" environment. So many other factors can go inside the story, which they ignore...

I hate lateral-thinking puzzles.

Can you explain why no clothes please? I was thinking the same as thimblrig, except that they used her clothes as sails.

Nir got it right, they get rid of clothes to lose weight, then get rid of a person (draw match) to lose more weight. She dies from falling off the balloon.

Not a quantum teleportation experiment gone wrong? Oh well…

You sure it was a living person and not a clone accidentally dropped by an assistant trying not to get caught smoking on a secret space station?

Jon,

There is only one correct answer. Stop trying to think laterally. What kind of puzzle do you think this is!!
