That's a really bad one! A bit like this one:
A man is found hanged in an EMPTY locked room. All that's in the room is a puddle of water. How did he hang himself?

No, silly. He hangs himself with a rope by standing on a block of ice. The ice melts and he is hanged.

So where did the rope go?
~~~ Hang on, I think I'm getting it... Standing there quietly, his feet slowly getting colder and colder he contemplates his long and miserable day. Firstly, he had to push his car home. Stopping outside a hotel, he decided the best course of action is to declare bankruptcy. He does. Getting out of that tricky situation he goes for a quiet drink in the bar, but the guy pulls out a gun. What's the world coming to? Returning to his apartment block is equally fraught with danger. People are dropping out of the sky all around him. One, nude, clutching a short straw, and remarkably another in full scuba diving gear lands close by. And on the front doorstep, yet another lies slumped. At least he didn't land on the unopened parcel that must have been delivered during the day. As he gets out of the elevator at the seventh floor and slowly walks up the last three sets of stairs, he contemplates his short life and the state of the world. On his arrival inside the apartment his mood is further shattered when he discovers the bodies of his only companions dead. Their bodies naked and unmarked lie in center of the floor. He can't believe it. A car that doesn't work, bankruptcy, people firing guns near him, people dropping out of the sky around him and finally this, Tony and Cleo dead. Assembling the tower had taken time, (he only had a limited number of ice trays) and standing on it had taken courage but he wanted to leave a final mystery, the manner of his death, even if no one in their wildest dreams would understand what on earth drove him to it. |
MagicCoach, that's quite possibly the funniest post I've ever read in here.
Thanks magicgeorge.
As I said, it was just written in a rush over a cup of tea but it might be a great idea for a short story. I might start tweaking it a bit. It was also not meant to be a puzzle as such but there are of course eight classic Lateral or Situational puzzles mentioned. Apart from the Albatros meal, what are the other classics I missed... The two lumps of coal and carrot in a field? What else? |
Well, I suppose the poor hero could lament the fact that despite the fact he had three bulbs in his room, for some weird reason all the switches were in another room. He could also go for a meal with a couple of friends where the waitress got so confused with the change that a dollar appeared from nowhere (or did it disappear, I can't remember).
But I kinda like your story as it stands. |
