So today I washed my Goshman Color changing ball to jumbo square. I swear to you, each one of them doubled in size. The Square won't even fit in the box it came any longer without being compressed. Is that normal for super soft sponges? Do they always grow when wet or moist? It was so noticeable that I could almost imagine an effect where the ball was moistened and grows before your eyes....

When you soak the super soft sponge items they will expand. This also makes them easier to manipulate (turning the sponge inside out, like sponge ball to square. I always wet mine, wring them out well, then store them in a paper towel lined container for a show. |

I learned about this in a lecture many years ago. I don't remember now who it was, possibly Jay Scott Berry, but I don't remember for sure. Anyway, whoever it was, carried a small spray bottle of water with them so they could quickly spray their balls. This limited how wet they got and still had the desired effect.

Water refreshes the spOnge balls great. I had some in a close up case I completely forgot about. So when I found them they were actually crushed, disformed. Giving them a little bath made them brand new agsin

Yep, they do get bigger. Has anyone noticed significant discoloration from doing this too often over the long run? The reason I ask is because I noticed that the water I wring out of my sponge balls gets colored whenever I wet them.

There will be some loss of dye. Better doing it now than staining things later.

I have not noticed any color loss from the Goshman Super Soft balls I use. I have also started wetting them regularly prior to performance. I have found that they stay moist throughout the the day because the Ga heat and humidity cause them to stay moist and expanded.

I do know that if you store a bunch together of different colors, without wetting them and running out the excess dye, they will trade colors a bit. I have old yellow sponge balls with green and red on them haha. Still good for practice though. And I like that spray bottle tip, thanks. I may try a small spray bottle for breath to fit in my case for that purpose.
