For those who think that this is as "silly" as the notion that there are those who would ban birth control:

Thank you, rockwall, for at least admitting that King HAS in fact clearly come out against contraception. I agree with you that his statement was silly and stupid, the sad thing is that so many people agree with him. In King's case, though, saying stupid things isn't an aberration.

Well Bob, what is the point of you accusing me of not believing in science and saying stuff like "don't let the facts get in your way". Those are what I consider cheap shots and I usually don't comment on them. Maybe we should not be overly sensitive if we are going to take cheap shots. I don't really care either way and I retype many many things before I post just because I know you cant take things back once you hit send or submit. I don't have any personal problems with anyone here and would probably get along in person with all you guys.

It another small step to them bringing in rations. One day you will be used to what I have been telling you is coming down the pike, rationing, riots and all the rest of it. Small portion conditioning comes first. Less money, less food for more work and tax and so on. Global rationing will be fair though. One in seven go to bed hungry and soon it will be seven out of seven. Unless they kill six billion you might get a bit more perhaps. Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

With a little bit of 'self' control, the problem is solved without the government. Well, that was wishful thinking.

I should have simply indicated my very strong disagreement on the pertinent issues and refrained from the ad hominem references. But if it makes you feel any better, I've been called "stupid" plenty of times on the forum and just yesterday a poster opined that it was a "lucky thing" that people like me won't be around much longer. |

Bob, that means a lot. I'm kind of laughing about it though cuz I added that little bit in there just for you and was wondering if you would notice or pick up on it! I respect you immensely as a performer and would probably feel embarassed if I ever met you in person or bumped into you at the Magic Castle! LOL
I actually have a copy of "Mental Miracles" on VHS and always loved those effects that are explained therein. I prepared all the items in order to perform a couple of them but never have attempted to perform 'em as of yet. Take care and have a good weekend. We are getting our house inspected tomorrow morning by the state social services folks so that my wife can be registered for a day care dealy. Been so doggone busy the last several weeks with a crapload of stuff day after day. I think we are going to have a party tomorrow night! Glen

Glen,
Be prepared to be told exactly what to eat inside the daycare. LOL But seriously, I'm a long time owner of a child care center, and if you ever have questions about the business or I can be of help, just let me know. Good luck with the inspection. Tom

Glen-
That would be great to run into you at the Castle. Why would you be embarrassed? Something that shouldn't be forgotten around here is that all of us are bound together with common love for the magical arts. To me, that completely overrides national, political or religious differences. It reminds me of an incident that happened to me way back in 1972 when I was in the Navy and on shore-leave in Villefranche. We had about four days in port so I decided to get away from the dive bars and tourist traps and get a taste of life among the locals. I got a room for a few days in a very small hotel/inn that catered primarily to the French. Sitting at the bar (in civilian clothes) I decided to make some friends by doing a bit of visual card magic. It went well and soon I was approached by an Asian man who spoke fluent English and who was a great fan of magic and a very good sleight of hand artist himself. We spent a few hours together drinking and talking magic. We really hit it off. I was astonished when I learned that the gentleman was in France because he was a North Vietnamese delegate to the Paris peace talks! And there I was, with top secret military clearances, actually having a high time with someone who was officially supposed to be by enemy. But, at least for a few hours, we both forgot about that. We were, after all, both magicians. Good thoughts, Bob |
