I saw cooler at last year's International Magic Convention and I was not impressed on the appearance of the deck, as I could see grey plastic and also from the angle I saw it at, could quite easily see it's working's.

Hi J-M,
Your suggestion of higher walls for the Cooler, in order to not have to be precise, will not work (at least not in the current design). The bottom of the Cooler would droop down if it were not filled compleatly with cards. And that would not look good. But I have a couple of suggestions... 1. Try with different decks, as the thickness in different decks (even within the same brand) vary from deck to deck. The card stocks are different thicknesses. 2. Remove 1 or two cards from the deck. 3. See if the case you glue to the bottom (on both sides) could be thinner. Maybe even consider using stickers. We call 'em "skins ( a name coined by Paul Wilson). 4. Practice some more.... 5. We are both here in Kouvola, so come talk to me, and I'll show you in person. It really should not be difficult at all. All the best guys, Christian Engblom Ps. If you wish me to answer you faster than I do here, please email me, as I spend very little time on any forums. |

Christian, cooler is awesome. Just started thinking, is there going to be a new edition where there could be the stuff you take from a card box already? And are you going to release more tricks using the cooler? And is it possible to buy ONLY the device from you?
Thanks. ( Another magician from Finland. ) |

For those of you/us who have the older Abbott catalogs (1940's)...see Eddie Clever's deck switch prop called: "Exchange". Looks like it could be pretty much the same as "The Cooler".
If so, I sure hope that a nod to Mr. Clever is in the instructions (yep, I doubt it is too). |

When is Cooler available for sale? The Vanishing, Inc. website says "Coming Soon."

I just put the deck in my coat and take out the second deck and say, do you
want to see one more? works perfect for a forcing deck switch and more |

I thought it was slick but kinda obvious. I'd certainly do this on an off-beat with a bit of misdirection thrown in.

I think the d**k s***l looks much better.
"The New York Papers," Mark Twain once said,"have long known that no large question is ever really settled until I have been consulted; it is the way they feel about it, and they show it by always sending to me when they get uneasy. "

I want to know as well. The switch is fine if no one is THINKING. But getting the box on the table and the deck on it I want to see.

My thoughts from another thread, OK first let me say I do not own this, I just received the notice in my email. I looked at the demo attached & I feel this is the worst deck switch I have ever seen and at the price it is even worse. I have seen switches with basic shells that look as good, in the pocket switches can fly right by an audience and Barry Richardson in his 2nd book has a card case switch that you can make for nothing that looks way better and w/o the huge discrepancy. Sorry just my thoughts you mileage may vary & maybe an independent owner of this product may wish to voice otherwise.

I watched the demo a few times over the last couple of days, it's okay, but there is just something "funny" about how it looks. You are aware that something happened even though
you may not know exactly what it is. Perhaps in real life my opinion would be different. |

I don't have this, but have used Dean Dill's BLizzard. If they filmed a demo of that, you'd see the move. But, the audience never does. For the cooler, they filmed it direct to show what happens. That's an honest demo. In real life, no one would notice.

Seems like you have to rely heavily on misdirection for this to be of use...the video makes the effect seem like a bad transposition...anyone burning the deck will be able to see what's going on...BUT with the right misdirection for a small audience, it could be a great gimmick?.. (I don't own this)
Is this worth $45 I ask to those who own it and are using it? Also, those of you using it, does it play for small groups only? Do you time the move on the off beat? Kaylan |

Can the gimmick easily be made to any deck-box?

I think we can all agree, that the demo is not fooling anyone, which as others have commented - was neither the intention.
But let me tell you this. Some months ago I saw Christian Engblom do an effect, where I was badly, badly fooled. And yes, you gussed it, he used "the cooler" I really think this is ingenious |
