Hello! I want to share an exciting period in my life and also request your assistance passing on the word. I’ve launched a one-month project on “Kickstarter” an online site dedicated to raising capital to support the arts. I am working diligently and moving forward to re-create the San Francisco Magic Parlor.
I know in today’s economy there are more creative visions to invest in than there are private donors to support them. However many of us have friends who have other friends –who wish to, and are able to– support worthwhile artistic ventures. (Remember the “six-degrees-of-separation theory?) The Chancellor Hotel will host the San Francisco Magic Parlor once again this Autumn. My show “Astonishment! Magical Tales of San Francisco” is theatrical Performance Art. A fresh approach to seamlessly blending classic storytelling with classical magic. Almost every performance at the Parlor sold-out in 2009 and I’m optimistic this fresh new show will do so again. My guests will enter an intimate turn-of-the-century-parlor where magical marvels and romantic tales of old San Francisco will unfold. I’m initiating a three-month run, but I hope the Parlor runs indefinitely as an avenue to augment my livelihood as an entertainer. You may know that I bring over thirty-five years as a full-time theatrical magician and professional Equity actor to this project– and I’ve been fortunate to assemble a “dream team” of three of the best, diverse, and skilled artistic advisors, along with an amazing production design team. I’ve wanted to re-invent and re-open the Parlor for three years now– and it’s not often you get a second chance to share a dream. I’d like my friends, and friends of their friends, to become a part of my dream as we approach my Holiday Season opening. Wherever you are in the world, you’ll know there’s a special table reserved for you in the San Francisco Magic Parlor– on the Cable Car line in the heart of downtown’s Union Square. You’ll find my Kickstarter page at: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/walt......rancisco I appreciate your encouragement and consideration. Thank you! Magically, Walt |

Kickstarter is such a great idea for something like this. In a community like ours each can give as they can from as little as a dollar or two to hundreds if they can! International reach is also possible with kickstarter. I have been thinking about starting a theater in my town as we have none but I don't think I could run it alone and need more acts to book first. When I can find more partners will definatly look into a kickstarter for the funding to get the theater open.

Not much I can do, but run my yap, but hey, if it'll help...
Walt is a unique individual! I could only wish I had a tiny portion of his style and grace! I'm a sort of clumsy clod. I guess that's why I was so successful in radio for so many years (decades), because I was hidden behind a microphone in a tiny studio! My magic has taken a 180 degree turn since corresponding with Walt. I got his book Tales Of Enchantment: The Art Of Magic, and my whole world changed! Hey, I've had fun on stage...that is until I blew the Zombie in front of 300 people! It got hung up in the foulard and popped up, oh so "visible". The audience gasped, was silent for a beat or two, then roared with laughter! I have never set foot on the Bates Collge Campus since, LOL! I also have not set foot on stage since then. My magic has been for more private audiences, and it's been stuff that cannot fail. My late girlfriend told me I pretty much sucked at performing. She said I looked like a stiff pitch salesman or robot-carnival barker! I almost quit magic. Then, when I was in the homeless shelter, at the bottom, having lost all my belongings, I began corresponding with Walt. That's when I got his book. That's when magic turned for me. I asked myself, "Why am I doing magic?" Answering that question opened a path I am still traveling. If my magic is better, my audience more entertained than before, and a good tale is told in the process, then I owe it all to Walt Anthony! I predict he will have more than enough funds for this. A noble and generous gesture, providing this venue! I am from San Francisco. I haven't been back there since my mother died in 1969. I'm stuck in Augusta Maine, now. A freakin' GHOST town! The economy just killed this city! The main store downtown is a head shop called Cosmic Charlie's. Ain't nothin' else but a big bank! Most of the other business have shut their doors. Yeah, guys and gals...if you can, visit San Francisco! If I could afford to, I would move there, and stay there until I die! And Walt LIVES there! My gosh, just the restaurants are enough...then the cable cars, BART system, the whole shebang...man I MISS it! Doug |

What is an Arts Advocate?
“When an individual supports the Arts they are nurturing more than that art form. They are contributing to the thousands of hours and the decades during which the artist studied, experimented, and grew to perfect their skills in times of abject frustration and immense joy. The patron is nourishing the artist’s heart and soul as they bond with them in celebrating the artistic process. The benefactor subsidizes the artist’s passion, and tools, and time to perfect their craft and hone their talents in order to offer those gifts to others.” –Anonymous– |

My show “Astonishment” is one-quarter blocked and memorized as of last night (David is being a slave-driver.)
With a tiny performance area in the Parlor movement is regimented and tight (I did say it was an intimate space!) I at last found an obscure and elusive prop in Chinatown, what a great local resource to shop in. Tonight, back to the Chancellor Hotel to re-measure everything and rearrange the seating to maximize sightlines. That’s today’s update… |

I worked all morning/afternoon/evening, but was able to run through all of Act One of the San Francisco Magic Parlor show. It was grueling , but equally rewarding.
Hooray! My set of Art Nouveau Magic Tables should ship next week, and today I go for Costume fittings. Hope I can schedule my Photo Shoot within the next two weeks. I think the “look” of the Parlor and show will elegant! I have a lot of generous partner/patrons due to my Kickstarter Project. I owe them the best possible show and theatre experience! Thanks to ya’all for a successful Kickstarter Project, there will be a few more touches in the San Francisco Magic Parlor’s ambiance to give a suggestion of the La Belle Époque period, so my guests feel they are in a turn-of-the-century Cabaret.

Hello! I thought you’d like a “down to the wire” update.
-- 4 Days to go on the clock! -- 45 Incredible donors. -- $3,580 pledges This grant provides for details in the Parlor’s ambiance to suggest the La Belle Époque period, so my guests feel they are in a turn-of-the-century Cabaret. Michael Mosher (with no compensation for his work or time) sent up the three tables that will grace the stage. Not only are the lovely, they all fold perfectly flat for storage each night! http://wackomagic.blogspot.com/2012/07/c......sco.html Thank You for supporting the project. Magically, Walt |
