My first contact with Andy Griffith was his album "What It Was Was Football", part of which I believe he performed on the Tonight Show with Steve Allen. I've been a fan ever since. I still watch those Matlock reruns, they're on practically every day.

But the type of character that defined Andy Griffith's roles was established in that movie, at least on a large scale. Correction... The Danny Thomas Show.

Made me want to get a fishin pole , start whistlin and get Opey and head to the fishin hole. Guess Barney is sheriff now, hope they give him a second bullet. Andy was a great entertainer.

Barney left us several years ago, as did many of the other regulars. About the only ones left are Thelma Lou, Gomer and Opie.

Actually I think I may have linked his Matlock with Perry Mason, or something like that. I was aware that Don Knotts had passed, that might have contributed to my confusion, too, regarding who was still among us. Time for a roll call, maybe.

For those who get MeTV, they are honoring Andy Griffith today starting at noon PST by showing episodes of all of his shows, including the original pilot that aired on The Danny Thomas Show.

I read Ron Howard's statement on twitter.
I don't know if it was just me, but it didn't seem as personal and warm as I may have expected, for someone who served as his parental unit. Glad you are now resting Sheriff! You deserve nothing but the finest! Aunt Bea is waiting with a fresh hot pie! |

Ron Howard
✔@RealRonHoward "Andy Griffith His pursuit of excellence and the joy he took in creating served generations & shaped my life I'm forever grateful RIP Andy" Could be Ron Howard's not a kid anymore. Also might like to keep a little something personal... personal. |

Might be he'd like the focus to be on Andy moreso than himself. Respect.

They started with an episode of Hawaii Five-O called "Don't Shoot- We're family thieves." Great episode with Andy as a conman who works with his wife and little daughter and accidentally rips off a mob bag man.
Never saw this one until today. |

My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".
