The Andy Griffith thread reminded me of what a great villain he was in A Face in the Crowd.
Who is your favorite movie villain? To make it more interesting, I'd like to exclude: a)characters from comics, b)extra-terrestial, sci-fi and fantasy characters (aliens, monsters, zombies, vampires, robots, and Darth Vader types), and c) James Bond-type taking-over-the-world-type villains. The spirit of the thread is villains who we would not necessarily recognize as such at the beginning. Maybe it's the person sitting at the end of the bar.

Well that's effectively eliminated all of my favorites that came to mind.

Anton Chigur in No Country for Old Men. Dude was a human shark. The part of this first clip where he hears the toilet flush in the other room, and you can just see him calculating whether it's worth it to kill her or not, is just classic. I'd have given him Best Supporting Actor for those silent 5 seconds. Totally indifferent to everything except his own bizarre internal code (second clip - "I can't call it for you. It wouldn't be fair.")

I've always preferred Don Logan in "Sexy Beast" to Chigur. Not that Chigur wasn't creepy.

Max Cady (by either DeNiro or Mitchum) in Cape Fear would be up there. Tommy Udo in Kiss of Death (particularly Widmark's). Hannibal Lecter.
And perhaps the greatest of all (though Chigur is still my favorite)... Iago.

I think "Crow" from Ong-Bak 2 and 3 might be outside the restrictions. He's not my favorite of all time, but I did want to see him stopped.

I think one problem I have is seperating slasher/crime-thrillers from horror in general. I'd have put Lecter high on my personal list but I've always grouped him in with the other "monsters" from the slasher flicks, i.e., Michael Myers.
So where I was hoping Ong-Bak 2 and 3 would go is that Crow would actually represent Tien's dark half, and rather than destroy Crow, Tien would have to learn to accept that part of his nature and then find the balance. The "middle way." With that in mind, Tyler Durden would make my short list.

Oh, I guess Crow doesn't fit the other criteria. He's "fantastic" in nature.
