I was in Vegas recently and went to Copperfields show. The show was fantastic as always. But they did the effect where random numbers and letters called out by the audience end up being the same as the numbers and letters on old license plates that were hanging in view the entire time! Its a great effect. But after that effect, the people from the audience who were left onstage got to participate in a treat! They guarded the stage as Copperfield made his grandpas old car appear right over their heads!
It happened so quick, it really took me by suprise! Very nicely done! Chad |

We caught the Copperfield show last year.
I talked to several people who attended the show and they remember the car. Not the vanish and appearance on an island, not the rain, not the embryo guessing the card. Not the dancing panties. Not even the prediction itself. When Copperfield stepped into the car, slammed the very solid door and started the engine (?) it created a moment of magic with lasting impact. Best regards and a Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends, BlackSalt |

I've seen Copperfield maybe a dozen times in my life and the car illusion IMO ranks right up there with his flying illusion. The simplicity in appearance makes it really seem like magic. No boxes, no flashes of light, just a huge car from nowhere! holy cow, what a performer.

I saw David a few months ago. It was my first time seeing the car appearance. I've seen a lot of magicians make a lot of cars appear, so I wasn't expecting all that much....However, it was AMAZING. Like no other car appearance out there. The story behind it along with the music and presentation makes it one of the best (if not the best) illusion in his current line-up. It will go down as one of his best.
Believe In Magic....I do!

I even left 3 hours early for a car trip that should only have taken an hour and a half. Talk about luck) and I missed the first two illusions. I never found out what they were till now. Thanks. Which shadow box did he do? If it was the elevator shadow box I'm going to be really mad. And what is his Thru Steel illusion? Jim

His shadow box appearance was with a standard square box (but big) and he appeared sitting on a Harley Davidson Motorcycle. His show was awesome! I seen him live for the first time back in October and will definitely not miss another when he comes to town. He is absolutely my hero. A true first class act.

I just saw Copperfield last night and met Homer Liwag who was a guest here on the Café, Copperfield was in the shower so I didn't get to meet him, maybe next time... He did a thing I haven't seen before it was called "my little fan" or something apparently it is not a new trick. anthough he changed ALOT of his show! My favourite trick he did was the car appearance. does anyone know the inventor of this illusion??? also in that routine there is a prediction chest illusion, who is the creator of that plexi glass box illusion, that one was inpressive. anyone know the answers to my questions?
I did notice though he is getting old and is loosing that touch of energy and passion and isn't always smiling anymore... thanks, magic mike |

That car illusion was really the only one I wanted to see when Copperfield came through town. Sadly, he didn't do it here.
Can't blame him. Blackstone Sr. performed on the same stage years ago and reportedly commented, "Ladies and gentlemen, I was going to produce an elephant on this stage tonight, but they have me working on a picnic table." That old stage probably won't hold a car, either. <sigh> Dan Wolfe |

The last time I got to see DC he did the Lotto prediction, but without the car at the end. I still loved that trick, and thought it was the most impressive thing that night. Evidently the car illusion will not work in every theater they travel to. I think I really need to see him when I'm in Vegas to make sure to see it.

I have seen DC live 16 times. I have driven as far as 600 miles to see his show when it was close to me. The man is God in my opinion. HE was the Magician I grew up on. The kids nowadays are getting screwed thinking that Criss Angel and David Blaine is where it's at.
Anyhow...I have seen David do Lotto on 4 seperate shows. Each time it was wonderful. His current show, is not his best in my opinion...but the two that are worth the price of admission are Slo Mo Duck (Kenner rocks!) and Lotto! I would pay just to see those two and then I'd be set!

Lylemagic, I think you are 110% correct!!!! on everything you said. the man IS god, and I would pay just to see those too! it wans't kenner doing it though when he came to victoria, david also seemed very depressed and tired on stage, but, he's still got it.
thanks, magic mike |

Well, the first commandment aside, Copperfield is certainly NOT God!
Of course different things appeal to different people, and I will be the first in line to say that he is a brilliant magician. But when I saw Lotto I was not at all impressed except for the production of the car. I really think he's lost his edge since about the late 80s - mid 90s. I mean, come on, he "...seemed very depressed and tired on stage, but, he's still got it." Is that what you buy a ticket to see? Search the Café and you'll find dozens of posts over the last several years that describe the very same thing. I last saw him about 5 years ago and, guess what? He seemed tired, depressed and uninterested. I don't think with this many people reporting the same thing we can chalk it up to "having a bad night". What saddened me most was that the star of the show was the wrong David...Mendoza who built a good portion of the great props. But I don't buy tickets to see the props, I buy a ticket to see a good performance. |

I think the undeniable bottom-line is that Copperfield is tired, worn out, etc...definitely NOT a bad night. I think a lot of magician's make excuses for him and give him allowances they wouldn't give to anyone else. Any other less-known magician who put on a performance w/ comparable energy wouldn't have nice things said about him. For some reason, Copperfield seems to always be the "reference point" and has the unconditional affection of magicians.
If you evaluated his performance without any emotion involved, you could say he was ok -- but just that: ONLY ok. |

Copperfield is the best period. His amazing illusion mind is one that all would like to have. I don't think that he is depressed on stage at all just very relaxed and very funny. Let's not forget his ability to entertain an audience all his wise cracks and jokes makes the show not to mention his illusion detail. Just look at the lottery effect you can tell as magicians the great deal of thought and creativity that went into it. Everything builds up to the Car appearance. Sure he has been doing the same thing for years. It is still entertaining and awesome to see. He is at the pinnacle that all of us can alonely dream to be. He the most known magician in the world. Above all the rest. He has achieved so much and has contributed a lot to magic. Do to him he has created a lot interest in magic. I would be willing to bet that a huge percentage of magicians got into magic just because of him. Bottom line he is still a great magician and performer.
