Hi everybody.
Anyone here into Kangan water? If anyone is, do me a favor and just be quiet, nothing personal but I don't need to hear from you. My wife is facing major surgery at the end of this month. I don't think it is life threatening, but it is major and severe. She ran into someone who is one of our daughter's teachers. This woman is telling her how fast she will heal and how much better her body will be if she buys into this ionized water. Plain and simple... I am a scientist. Ionized water is bullspit. it is a money making scam, and most people who feel better for drinking water out of a $4,000 dollar machine do so because they have started drinking more like the amounts of water the body wants on a daily basis. Most people in our high speed high intensity world don't drink enough water. That is also a fact. Now, I love my wife. We have been together since 1988 and married since 1990. I still love her. I know she is scared about the upcoming surgery, and is clinging to what ever she can... But I am not spending $4,000 dollars that I do not have on a scam. Free advice is worth every penny you pay for it... but I could use some about now.

Get a cheap and regular water bottle dispenser, and slap some nicely printed "Ionized" labels on the sides of the bottles before you take them home. You're a scientist, you work at school (don't you)? Maybe you can tell a white lie about getting the ionized water bottles at a deep discount off of some chemical supply house through a contact.
BTW, not saying that I do or do not believe the claims. Just offering you a way out.

Get a local Reiki Healer to energize some water for you. It will do the same for a lot less. Also, have your wife get a session or two, the calming will be impressive.
Hospitals here are beginning to do more and more pre-op Reiki for the calming. Better yet, have the Reiki person do the water at the same time as the session. Your wife will be able to feel the difference after the session, and will accept the water as a good substitute for the $4000 thingy. Total cost: about $150.00

IMHO the placebo effect idea with labels on bottles of water is a winner.

I have not heard of Kangen water before this thread. The result of a quick search led to a page that said:
Quote:
It [Kangan water] is generally presented as the result of an electrolysis process which separates ordinary water (H20) into two separate entities. One half of the separated water becomes an acidic HO molecule, while the other becomes an alkaline OH molecule. The producers of Kangen water bottle the alkaline OH water for drinking purposes, while the acidic HO molecule is used for topical applications. (Source). So, there you have it... you take a molecule with two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, and "separate it" to end up with two hydrogen atoms and two oxygen atoms. Now I see why this stuff is magical! And clearly, whoever discovered it was brilliant. To me, an OH "molecule" is the same as an HO "molecule." But I guess if you're smart enough you can tell the difference. |

This is the first I've heard about it. It sounds particularly obnoxious, since it evidently is the cornerstone of a Ponzi-type multi-level-marketing type scheme. From the above source:
Quote: While the science behind ionized or alkaline water is fairly solid [sic], the main concern with Kangen water appears to be one of marketing. Kangen water is primarily sold through a multi-level marketing strategy, also known as an MLM.

Thanks guys. I will muddle along. Thankfully we watched a video together that was so full of bad science and straight out lies, I was able to steer her away from the thing.
