Too expensive in my opinion for something that looks kind of fragile. Sound effects are nice but this guy overdoes it. There are easier and cheaper ways to add sound effects to your act. Also, it does not appear to have any way to record your own sounds which would be important to me.

Hi Richard,
I agree that the price is high, however it does allow you to add your own sounds via a computer & SD card. Lou |

I would think a remote button could do the same thing at a much more dependable and cheaper cost. I worry about the movement breaking the wires and such. It also seems like you have to wear the right costume to get away with wearing this.
I suppose in the right situation it would be fine. Just too costly for my tastes. Kerry Pollack's machines could do the same thing. And since it is probably tied into the sound system, I don't see a major advantage. I missed the SD card interface. Thanks. Richard

I think the big question is do you need to trigger your sound effects in a random order, or in sequential order? If the order is always the same, then I would suggest the MP3 Tech. It has an ankle remote to trigger without your hands, and it is much less expensive. I know a used one that's available for $995.

I think it's pretty cool. If it is like most Roland equipment, it is probably built like a tank. This is not something for the casual performer, but I would love to play with one!
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

I am actually looking into buying one of these. Here's the email exchange I had with the salesperson
Hi Joe Thanks for interested our products and your mail. New version of the soundsuit is now on test-market. The traditional soundsuit use Roland SP-404SX for sound sources, but this new version use Apple iPhone and iPod touch. The soundsuit is for theater use and its wireless accession interval is about 50m. The soundsync is for street performers and close-up magicians, and its wireless accession interval is about 10m. Also, it uses iPhone for sound sources and keeps its prices down. All the lineups are as below. Soundsync receiver US$ 800 Soundsync speaker with a built-in receiver US$ 900 Soundsync body switch set US$ 800 Soundsync close up table US$ 900 All products can drive with battery. The Receiver will be connected to your sound system. The speaker with built-in receiver is 70W, so the volume of the sound will catch many audience’s ears. The Body switch set contains transmitter and 12 body switches. The Close up table has transmitter inside of it and you can control the sound just touching the table. You can also use body switches and close up table at the same time. iPhone is not included. If you any more questions Please feel free to ask. Thnaks again. Koichi Takao Hi Joey Thanks for your reply. > My options seem like > SOUNDSUIT > The soundsuit is $2500 with the Roland board. It’s the price with Roland SP404SX included. > SOUNDSYNC > Otherwise for the sync I would need: > An ipod (I supply myself) (Also does this work with Andriod phones? > ?That's what I just got not long ago) The soundsync system does not work with Android phones. It only works with iPhone 3GS, iPhone4, iPod touch 4th generation, and iPad. > A Speaker/Amp (I have a couple of systems) Switch set $800 Receiver > $800 Can you tell me how big the receiver is? > I know the body switches will be hidden but I am curious to know if > this will fit in my current sound case. The size of the receiver is 100 x 160 x 40 (mm). This is Sound Sync ,same case size of Sound Suit. Also you might need some space for Apple products. The soundsync system uses radio waves, so if you use metal case to contain the receiver, the distance you can control the sound will be shortened. There are no problems with wood or plastic case. > TABLE SETUP > Can you tell me more about the table setup? > Is there a speaker in the table? > What's the difference between this and the speaker with built in receiver? There is no speaker in the table. Just the transmitter is built in. > What would I need for that? All the equipments you need are included. > Are there switches on the table? The switch is hidden under the close up mat. > Are there drawers for props? > Is there anything else magical about the table (servants, load > chambers, > etc) There are no drawers. I’m planning to make servants and load chambers (for cards and coins), however it has not released. > Can you also tell me what type of instruction comes with the soundsuit/sync? Instruction comes with a booklet and lecture DVD. Of course, it’s in English. Thanks again. Koichi |

Hi all
thanks for your post I'm looking to trigger the sounds- randomly so I don't think the mp3 tech suggestion- will work for this. I agree the Roland stuff- is well made. I did get an email back from Koichi (below I copy & pasted some of his remarks) "You will need a sound system. You won’t put speakers on your body." "Every performer has different positions to place the switches. You can put them anywhere you want with safety pins." "Basically, they are placed inside of the jacket." "Some performers placed them inside of their shirts." "The soundsuit is perfectly acceptable for any costumes, but not for the tight costume like leotard." "The soundsuit can control 98 sounds, using SD card up to 32G." cost- yes, to some might be too much but the RRoland SP-404SX is around $500 it's self you then get a wireless transmitter body switches "The size of switch is 50mm x 50mm square, 15mm thick. I think you can put it on to base layer with Velcro instead of safety pin." "The soundsuit can control the sound and music freely at any timing, from any place you are. Pushing the switch on your body, the sound and music comes out from SP404 which is placed at some distance away from you." "There are 12 sounds in 1 bank, and on SP404, there are 8 banks, so you can keep 96 sounds in total." "So, there are 12 switches to control the sounds, 4 switches to switch the banks." "With all those switches, you can control 96 sounds or music at the distance from the speaker." "No, there are no limits for length of the sound. You can play music also. But you can’t pause the music." I was not aware that an iphone version was in the works- going to chat with him about that. |
