Been looking at it stuff for a while I like the floating ring or magnetic money etc. effect you get with these gimmicks but being new to IT, with so many devices out the I was wondering if anyone could point out where I should begin?

I have a tarantula but it has never been that reliable and eats expensive batteries. A standard ITR is a great way to go. I find myself using loops most often. Also, Mesika is coming out with his new Spider Pen Pro soon so that my be worth looking in to.

You could begin by using regular IET before spending a bunch of money. This will let you see if thread work is for you and worth the investment for a reel or similar device.

Yes, IET or IT, either one. You can get a 1000 meter spool of IT for about $3. I sent you a PM, Paul!

When I started working with IT I purchased the Centrifugal DVD. This was fantastic for me because it included a good quality ITR and walked me through how to use it and take it apart if needed. By the time I finished the DVD, I thoroughly understood the workings of the ITR. It also included several effects. If you are just starting, I highly recommend this DVD and the ITR that comes with it.

I just purchased my first set of loops, never used any IT before but the demo of the spider pen pro looks amazing. I figure spend 12 months with loops and see how that goes before investing in any serious kit. Looking forwad to trying it out.

A lot of what you see advertised doesn't really work in the real world. IT can be very frustating. I would recommend that you get the Amazing Joe Joe's web spinner. It's the easiest method for stripping and storing IT. Most all static effects can be done with this - even the floating spinning ring. But don't expect it to be as simple as it looks on YouTube. I would also recommend Deck TR by Sean Bogunia. Very nice electronic Version. I have worked with a lot of Sean's products and love the work he does.

I've had some personal issues myself with ITR's. One broke on me and the other lays dormant because of the episode I had of it. I'm currently a big supporter of the Loops, because I work and use it all the time, it's become real practical. I'm the type of guy who hates wearing jackets, vests, or anything like that of any sort. I also own the Taranchula, I had a battery issue with the one I have, but I am really shell shocked to use it, because I'd rather give amazing performances than to flub an effect.

Ralph's right. Ya might wanna check out The Web Spinner Tube. That makes IT a lot easier. That said, I use the LeClair Hook-up and Fearson's (when I'm wearing a hat). Once in a while, the Standard Floating Rose Hook-up, which is the easiest.
With Tarantula, there is the bulky S***** Gimmick, which frankly, I don't care for. The Spider Pen Pro just has too many problems (for the price). If you're gonna go the "motorized" route, I suggest spending the money, and go with the Sean B. programmable units. Doug |

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd like to branch out from purely coins and cards at some point. Finding information on them is easy.

Additional to the "Who's afraid of invisible thread by Jon LeClair" DVD you can also check the DVD "The Art of Levitation starring Arthur Tracz". The DVD comes with some gimmicks to start your first levitations...
cheers Nikki
