Hi all,

Just thought I would mention a new (well not so new) area online that is FREE for the selling, buying and trading of your surplus magic items. If you belong to facebook, you will want to check it out.

Introducing SURPLUS MAGIC EXCHANGE!

Surplus Magic Exchange (SME) is a group page FOR MAGICIANS ONLY. This is a place for our community of magicians to sell, trade and purchase each other's gently used and unused magic props, books, videos, collectibles and more.

There are rules for participation and membership but these are easy to follow and understand. Think of it as a clearing house or flea market to clean out your magic closet and to get a good deal on things you really need. Posting items is absolutley FREE and there is never any cost to join. This is a place for you.

SME was created as a means in which magicians can come together and have an easy and better way to buy, locate or trade items we all have laying around the house.

You can check it out at https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/surplusmagicexchange/

What is your percentage of each deal, can trades be done only, and then how is your fee or percentage calculated? If you notice on the Café, many if not most, now deal in trades over cash. It is like the old childhood method of trading baseball cards now on the Café.

There are NO Percentages as this is a FREE group. I am a member and you can BUY/SELL/TRADE your Gently Used or Like New Magic Effect, Books, etc. And YES, people Trade items as well. I quit buying items here as there just is way to much confusion. I have purchased some items on SME and it has gone well. This is totally FREE to do, just become a member of Facebook and in the Search Function type in Surplus Magic Exchange and ask to beome a member. Once you are approved they will let you know. In most cases it will be approved in 24-hours or less as they have several moderators.

Our fee is absolutely nothing. We do not get any fee at all. This is a totally free service provided to magicians around the world. It is 100% free to sign up to facebook, 100% free to become active in the Surplus Magic Exchange Group and you get 100% of the price on anything you sell. We do not collect money or make money on your sales at all. Hope this helps.

Any questions, please let me know.

As I am not a Facebook member as of yet, I then have to ask is this just sales among the current members. In other words, will it be available to anyone to make purchases that is not a member of Surplus Magic Exchange. Something like a guy is looking for a feather duster wand, will the listing for a feather duster wand show up on a Google search for a Feather Duster Wand or even a Facebook search for a Feather Duster Wand. I hope that question is clear.

You have to become a member of Surplus Magic Exchange in order to gain access to the sales posts and to bid on items. However, it is free to sign up and no cost for any of that. It is really quite a simple process should anyone want to take part in it. We have over 2,500 members to date and growing and a lot of great stuff posted every day.

We do have plans in the future to grow and expand this even more.

Beware of this group. I was banned from there because the way the group is being run and if they do not like what you say they banned you.
Is also depends on who you know if you are allowed to stay in the group or get banned.
I have also heard from many other people that the same thing has happened to them.

Proceed with caution.

You have been warned.

Of course you can get banned from any controlled group or forum -- even the Magic Café. Personally, I know Kyle and would trust him.

I applied twice and never got a response, and never got accepted. They want a lot of personal info, I wouldn't give them anything real, just put fake contact info, of course.

From what I hear, it's kind of shady; guys either get some good deals on it, or have terrible experiences with them. I haven't personally tried it yet though, I guess they didn't like my application!

Keep in mind that SME is a closed group on Facebook. Because people use a real name on Facebook, to give fake info on their other site (which I guess they use for filtering), seems like a strange thing to do.

I was on SME before you needed to join other groups / webpages, so I haven't had to join anything but the closed group on Facebook.

From reading the comments above, it appears this is magic's version of the Obamacare website! LOL!

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that a regular password-protected website would be better for this sort of thing. Facebook is pretty much a "Big Brother" that collects SO much info on the people that use it (which, of course, is why marketers like it). I, personally, would not use the site just because of the Facebook affiliation.

Hate to say it but facebook is not dying. Not anytime soon that is. lol I state this because I work for a HUGE marketing agency as my day job and we work closely with facebook a lot. I know more then I am supposed to know and can;t say or tell much cause of the agreements we made. But it is not dying anything soon for sure.

I am no longer directly involved in SME or in MV. It is not that they did anything wrong. It was a personal choice I made to allow me more time to concentrate on my own side businesses and projects.

AMEN me too.

Sorry this site is a Joke. They kicked me out, as I was TRYING NOT to be kicked out I even bent over backwards to try to follow the rules to the point I wrote the administrators BEFORE putting a post up or to ask a question. They said the very first day my intro was too long. Yes I'm a bit detailistic almost O.C.D. about it but seriously was like 2 paragraphs. I gave a TINY bit of my Background in case someone wanted to trade or sell to me. I apologized nevertheless. I then saw how the group ran. You take pictures then list the prices. I was on the site all day looking mostly, and commenting NICE things on people's stuff. I then took pictures 8, with 17 items which is normal there. Instead of all my pictures being shown though it was a post with like pictures on bottom with not all showing. I ASKED for help which is what you are suppose to do. I then got a email from a dude name Dennis who said there was 3,000 members and he didn't have time deleting my post as they were "Bumping" (not sure what that means like I said I'm not that computer savy) others post down while mine (like 3 in all I ever posted) went to the top. He said he didn't have time babysitting me deleting or fixing my post. Oh yes is my FIRST picture post I forgot a video in the picture for the Raven I'm selling. They pretended to be nice about it but man it got my fires boiling especially when I TRULY was trying to do right by the site. I told them they can burn you know where and were lucky we were thousands miles away. I also told Dennis I better not see him ANYWHERE on the Internet and to not write me and leave me alone. I just did a google search NOW for SME to see if he was here as I told him I didn't want to see him on the internet ANYWHERE. Man he hurt me and I'm effing ****ed. Stay away from this group, or should I say the moderators !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
God Bless, Ed
