Here's a cheap and easy close-up pad. Go down to your local office supply store and pick up your favorite colored mouse pad. That's right, a plain mouse pad is essentially the same thing as a close-up pad, only you can get it in any size and color you want. One thing you could do is create your own logo or take one of your promotional pictures and put it on the mouse pad for a little decoration. Hope this helps!

Mouse mats and closeup pads are made of neoprene, usually with a cloth (mouse) or felt (closeup) back. If you do a search for suppliers of Neoprene, you'll be able to buy the stuff dead cheap.

An inexpensive source for a workable close-up pad is automotive headliner material; any good fabric store should carry it. You can cut your mat any size you want; it won't be super durable by itself, but it will work fine and it IS cheap and readily available.
I build the occasional close-up table, which I always cover with European billiard cloth (very expensive), but underneath the baize is two layers of headliner cloth. Regards, Thomas Wayne

Speaking of mouse pads--If you have a Staples near you they sell a mouse pad that is about 12" x 17" or close for about $8 US.
I have two of them that I keep rolled up in my close-up case should I need them. They work really good for practice too.
