My newest idea on a way to practice Coin Magic. I love Mike's natural approach and devious ways. And own the Gallo DVD set, Siamese Coins and most of the NYCMS DVDs. So I thought JUST enjoying Mike's performances would be a practical way to saturate my learning with his style. I'm mainly interested in viewing ALL of his Performance Only routines at first. Then a few days later go to specific explanations for particular routines I'd like to learn.

I know Mike doesn't post much here anymore. But if he did, I gotta feeling he'd say, "Aw shucks."

He's got a TON of stuff on dvd, be sure to look at his stuff on the bonus sections, as a lot of great gems are living there!

You are SO right, Mike. Just picked up NYCMS DVD Volume 14 and the Okito Box routine in the Bonus Section is one of the best I've EVER seen----and his teaching is very clear. Everyone should have the NYCMS DVDs and view them again and again. I'll go back to something I scanned 6 months ago then realize what a GEM it is. Your Twilight Zone Wild Coin routines in particular are excellent, Doc!

Tom. I did almost the same thing but with Geoff Latta's stuff on the NYCMS DVDs. Finding that a bit limiting due to the limited amout of Geoff's stuff on there (or anywhere), I added Mike Gallo's performances. That gave me a lot more to view!

And Dr. Mike - your Coin Sleights DVD set was one of the first coin magic titles I owned, and so I overloaded on those discs for several months until my DVD library grew. What a fantastic way to learn!

I still remeber the 1st time I've seen Mike perform in person at the 1st NYCMS. I thought my head was gonna explode!! I was blown away!! He has awesome coin work! I can't wait to get the entire NYCMS collection. There is sooooo much to be learned!:D

And, yes, I also watch the performance only at first. For a different reason though. In the 35/40 years I've been in Magic, I am seldom fooled any more. Entertained? Yes. But I miss the wonder and awe of being blown away by Magic!

Mike Gallo is a MASTER at that! As are Roth, Rubinstein and (The Late) Geoff Latta. I'll never forget the first time I popped that in the DVD player! I watched every cut in performance only. I was like a little KID!

When I got to Dr. Mike's Twilight Zone Wild Coin, I bought a set of Morrissey Cups just to do that! Man, we are up to #16 now. I have got to start buying them again. I lost the first set in the foreclosure, but Dr. Mike helped me out with 1 - 7. I will never forget that. I kept them with me even through the homeless shelter!

NYCMS! There is no better source for learning coin Magic! The basics, though, should be learned by watching Dr. Mike's "Encyclopedia Of Coin Sleights". A 3-volume DVD set. Jim Canaday introduced me to that, after I raved about Mickey Silver, and wanted to learn a new retention. Just awesome!

I cannot agree more on that the NYCMS contains a great wealth of knowledge - I learnt so much from them! I believe it's unanimous - Mike's handling with an Okito box is so practical that every coin magician should get an Okito box just for that!

And speaking of Geoff Latta, I feel so sad when I watch his C/S routines.. His magic was so down to earth, it's a shame I never got to see him live.

Mike may never run a marathon, but he has played soccer against Pele, hung out with the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins, and survived the harsh Buffalo winters without ever wearing a winter coat. He once nearly killed a man in a bar fight using just the Gallo pitch. He has been known to drink an entire case of soda pop, and never burp. And, he can do 20 straight hours of coin magic with just an okito box, 4 half dollars, a copper coin, and a shot glass. He IS the most interesting coin magician in the world!
