I perform Charlie Justice' "Prohibition" using a Cornita bottle, which is a 7Fl. OZ clear bottle. I also use a clear Norm Neilsen gimmick for "Bottle Thru Table" using the same Cornita bottle. In conjunction with "Prohibition" and "Bottle Thru Table", I use a false bottom gimmick I made ala "Perrier With A Twist" by Kevin James. Everything is clear, to include the bottle and both gimmicks. One bottle and two gimmicks all clear, unfortunately, "Devious" is only being offered in Brown. Would absoutely love a clear "Devious" gimmick.

It is possible that a clear model will be available. For now we need I would love to hear some reviews, it's been selling great and I have received emails that have tons of great feedback but I haven't seen much talk here.

What brands work well with the gimmick? Are there any European brands of beer with which this gimmick will work? Thanks for your help.

This really needs to come with a brown gimmick, a green gimmick, and a clear gimmick in the same package for it to be something that I would buy. And the brown gimmick would be the last one in the pecking order for me! Green and clear are first and second.

Mike--
Don't be disappointed, the effect is great, really great, but you do have to use the correct bottle... and ted french should have said "almost" any brown bottle. That would have been more accurate. There are some bottles where the opening is just too small. Any time you are "modifying" reality, you must "fit" the modification situationally. For example, a blue-backed poker-size Bicycle-style card gimmick won't work with a red-backed bridge-size Bee deck, but it will work with a very popular style of cards in blue. The "Devious" gimmick is made to fit most bottles. However, if you run into a situation like you did, you can always perform my "Twist Down" variation with any capped brown bottle. --Dan Harlan |

It was a custom made gimmick and expensive to make to include 3 would drive the cost way up. You would be surprised how much something like this costs to make when you are buying thousands of units and not 10,000+ units or more.

Will this work with screw on Beer bottles? There are so many types of caps, which works best - Screw off, Twist off, Bottle opener needed?
Will it work with what they call Wide Mouth? Or does it only work with the old standard beer bottle? |

As ted french stated in his post above:
"It was a custom made gimmick and expensive to make to include 3 would drive the cost way up. You would be surprised how much something like this costs to make when you are buying thousands of units and not 10,000+ units or more". Which is very true indeed. However, to simply change the color of the gimmick itself without any new engineering would seem to be a pretty simple matter. A brown dye of some sort was used to achieve the brown coloration in the gimmick. Make the same gimmick without utilizing any dye would perhaps give you a clear gimmick. In the same vain brown dye was used, exchange it for a green dye. This is just my opinion. But it's probably not as simple as that to do. As I posted above on August 2nd: "I perform Charlie Justice' "Prohibition" using a Cornita bottle, which is a 7Fl. OZ clear bottle. I also use a clear Norm Neilsen gimmick for "Bottle Thru Table" using the same Cornita bottle. I agree withnonvpro concerning the manufacturing of the gimmick. The tooling to make a mold is expensive. The cost per unit goes waaaay down when the number of units goes way up. In the business that I'm in, there are certain things that must be made to get started. So, lets say these start-up things cost $1,000. They cost $1,000 whether you make one unit or 100,000 units. Your final costs for 1 unit might then be $1,010- a cost of $1,010 each. The cost to make $1,000 units might be $1,100- a cost of $1.10 each. I have no idea what the costs are for these, but making it from the same die would drive the cost down if you made 3 times the amount. Adding (or not adding) an alternative color would not add to the cost at all.
Let's get something straight- I like this. I would like to buy it. But in brown? No way! Root beer bottles are brown? In my area of the country (NYC and the NYC area) I haven't seen root beer in single serve bottles in years. And I'm old enough to remember! |

Let me add one more thing. I don't know if these are made out of plastic or glass, but either way- how much is the cost of the plastic or glass? 10 cents? 25 cents? 50 cents? It can't be more than 50 cents. I can buy a bottle of Pepsi for a buck and change. That includes the bottle and the cola drink. Pepsi has to make money, the distributor has to make money, and the final seller has to make money. And they all do! I realize that Pepsi sells a million units a day. I realize that we are dealing with a much more limited market here, and therefore things are a bit different. But still...
I realize that everyone has to make money off of the deal. In manufacturing it seems that doubling your money is the rule of thumb. So if it costs $1 to make each unit, the manufacturer would want to get $6 for 3 units. Then Paper Crane would want to get $12 for 3 units. Or $20 for 3 units. Or $40 for 3 units and a DVD. Are you trying to tell me that these things cost $15 or $20 each to actually make? You're going to the wrong manufacturer if they do! I don't want to be a wise guy, Ted, but consult with me and I'm sure that I could lower your costs. I'm only trying to look out for you, Ted. It seems that there a a fair number of people here on this forum that like this, but DO NOT want it in brown. I'm one of them. I would consider it if it was in clear or green. I'd buy it for $40 if it was both clear AND green, but no brown. To my feeble mind, you chose the worst color of the 3. Mike Storz brought it with him to perform with last night and could not find a brown bottle to use it with. How many times is that going to happen before he gives up? Let's see what happens with him tonight. I await the news with bated breath! |

Its not just a bottle top theres a special something added but anyways we haven't ruled out a clear version or a green one, they may be available in the future.

I do realize that there is a "special something", and I believe that I know what it is (although I can't figure out all of the details); after all, how could it stay in place without it? Maybe that's why it can't be done in a clear bottle. But I don't want to keep talking about things like that- too much has already been said, and mouths should be kept shut.
But even still, as I said above, tripling the order quantities should drive the cost down considerably, no matter what colors they come in. I can't use brown. |
