So I go out to my car today and find this:



The vinyl from my door is peeling away. I went and got some spray adhesive and it didn't work. I don't want to take it to the shop cause I'll know they'll bill me something like $1000 and say I need a brand new door.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Contact cement.

They make a high temperature spray adhesive that might work.GM also makes a Super Trim adhesive I believe.

There's Spray 77 and the stronger spray 99, which are 3M adhesives. I'd recommend Goop. Apply a thin layer to both areas, then press. It will hold forever, I think. But, then again, I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to car panels, but GOOP can fix anything.

Do you have access to a staple gun?

Buy a new car...

You definitely want to try and get that fuzzy stuff off the contact areas before applying any adhesive.

You could just rip the liner off the other door so that they match.

Good idea, and it looks to me like that piece pops out, so you may not even need the whole door panel.

Any good upholsterer should be able to do both doors, so they would match, for way less than a body shop... you are talking forty dollars or so of materials...

There are some upholstery shops in Juarez, Mexico that could fix this right away, and cheap. If your lucky to get through customs you might even come back to Texas with some goodies in the door. You will need a passport and enough money to bond out if you don't make it.

Seriously, it looks like it's got that dandruff kind of thing going on. I've never had much luck getting stuff to stick with that happening. You might have to get all of that off, maybe with a stiff brush. Then you might have to spray some type of sealer over it, really saturating the base material, because if that stuff is going to keep flaking, it ain't going to stick. After you get it clean, and perhaps sealed, then adhesives should work.

Disclaimer: I only really tried that with a couple of roof liners, never on a door panel, and the end result was not perfectly successful.

The junkyard idea is worth looking into.
