A couple of local performers I know here have been talking to me about the three of us staging a family type variety show. Isn't this much like the old 4-walling show where all the risk is on our shoulders?
I would love to try a theatre type show but worry about the lack of decent venues for a family show. Has anyone tried this? How did it go?

Hi Neale,
I've personally ran a family theatre show before and I can tell you that it's a lot of work! The most difficult part of staging a theatre show is promotion, where you have to fill up the theatre with people. You won't want to do a theatre show with only 10 people! (Kinda reminds me of the Muppet show movie!) Personally I think venue is not an issue. The simplest and the fastest way is to find schools who are willing to open their halls/stage/etc. for your shows. On top of that, you can "advertise" to the students in that school to watch your show. Here is one idea for you as I have not implemented it but it can work: Run a "fund-raising" theatre show. If making money is not your primary concern, then you can work with a school that is looking for ways to raise funds. I believe they will be more than happy to work with you. Hey, if you need more information, let's talk. Or maybe we have others guys who have more experience to chip in. |
