OK I have had these cards for a week or two now and I really love the look and feel. They are big and bold, easy to read (if you know what I mean) and very impressive to a layman... The booklet which accompanies them is very well thought out bringing some of the best minds together, and suggesting how other props which you may already own fit in with the system...
Studying rune casting to be able to do a reading is recommended but if your memory is like a sieve is there anything against marking the cards with the rune name and some keywords (in pencil) or is this sacrilege...?

As to rune casting, there is no reason you cannot have a booklet on runes openly at your elbow for consultation. There are no extra credit points for memorizing the runes (though it is impressive), and the cards are made in such a way that you can easily tell which is which, if you know what I mean, so you need only consult your booklet/crib/cheat-sheet in full view to 'gain an impression' of what is being communicated and go from there.

In time, when you'll have them memorized through repetition, you can still keep the booklet by your side to have the SPEC look up the different runes and what they can mean.

That's Christopher Gould's voice I hear in my ear saying, 'It is all about presentation, conviction and sincerity.' Golden words.

I love the feature that allow these cards to be used face down. I like the idea of playing the part of the skeptic, explaining the ideomotor effect, turning the cards face down in an effort to debunk and then continuing to get hits...as if things are getting beyond my control. Smile

I'm ignorant of this history of these types of cards. Have there been any predecessors with this same face down feature?

I have downloaded the free preview, must say they look good, must save up the pennies now.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

These cards are huge.
I thought about using them around a table with a wine-glass as a planchette (like a talking board). However the size of the table required is huge.
And when I got them – I did not see that there was a free manual.
How can I get one after the fact – as I think I need to gain more information for performance ideas?

Every Deck has access to the manual. Send me your email address and I will sent you the link for the manual written by Prof BC with lots of routines for you to use.

I just received a somewhat customized order (I needed two decks!), planning to use The Gateway Deck for an effect I wanted to work out that the cards seemed a good match for. Frankly, they are TOO nice for what I intended and I'm just blown away with the possibilities these artistic renderings possess.

Calling them cards or a deck doesn't do them justice. Each one is more like a "tablet" or "plaque." They feel so solid in your hands it is hard to describe, unlike anything I've ever seen along these lines.

Given my intentions, I never read much of the preview other than to make sure I could manage to actually read the cards. Vic was extremely helpful in that area as well since my original plans would have been pointless otherwise. He really went the extra mile for me and I can't thank him enough.

So now I have this awesome looking manual, including work by some of my favorite creators and I can't wait to dive in and see all the ideas I haven't discovered in my own meanderings through The Gateway! Though my original plans went astray, I'm more excited with what will be than with what may have been. Truly fine work here and if it is all your kind of thing I recommend checking these beauties out.

My Thurisaz instruction manual has been deleted from my Dropbox. Did this happen to anyone else?

MG, I use Dropbox daily for my work. Any chance you may have dragged the file from your Dropbox folder to your desktop or another folder (even on another computer that. Is linked to your Dropbox folder)? Or, does anyone have access to your computer (phone, tablet, etc.) that is linked to your Dropbox folder? Regardless, you can in-do any mistake that has happened for the past 30 days via Dropbox. So, assuming you did not just discover this and it actually happened over a month ago, you can go into your Dropbox control panel and un-delete it.
Best of luck,
David
