I've looked for reviews of this around here and haven't found any- maybe I missed them.
Anyone have any experience with this effect? Is it any good? I've been considering it, but would like any advice you may have. http://www.magic.org/store/product_info.php?products_id=3379 Thank you

Is a review actually necessary, that is the best made demo video I have every seen. They tell you the secret and give you a full live demo video of the effect as he does it. I think his handling is a little elementary, but he wants to sell to beginners as well as seasoned magicians.
I think a top or bottom change would be better here for the more advanced magician, but the handling is okay. The effect is kind of so-so for me, I think this is a good filler between some other magic tricks with cards or the use of a silk previously. Those are just my thoughts on the trick. |

Thanks Bill. I was just wondering if anyone who has the effect had any input because I've seen some really good demos and then the effect turns out to be a disappointment. I guess I'm really curious as to why I see NOBODY mentioning it anywhere.
And I thought I could see the you know what at one point in the vid. Was gonna ask someone about that. Maybe just sloppy handling. Thanks again-

The stage version of this effect developed by a Japanese magician and published in a book (title currently escapes me) uses an ungimmicked jumbo card and looks just as convincing. I also think that the effect would 'read' better with a jumbo card in a parlor setting.

Then it disappears as the cig is removed. If that is what you are speaking about, then that is part of the magic the audience sees. I did not enlarge the screen, so it I did not notice anything except, the had to adjust something on the back of the card prior to the removal. I believe a trick like this should be done at a quicker pace then shown, and if you can inject constant patter in which you address several members of the audience heighten the energy of the trick. Forcing a matching card in a previous trick also helps to draw more interest, as in "Look that card looks familiar, didn't you just choose that card a minute ago!" As said, a top change will bring this into better trick. Okay, I watched it again, full screen, I did not notice anything during the pull through. This is as you might think. I could be an entertaining interlude. |
