Hi Folks!

I've scanned through the threads here and have enjoyed everyone's input.
I have a figure by Kristin L. that I'd love for you to weigh in on. I've had him since 1999 and he was used regularly for a couple years (well cared for) and has pretty much been in his case, in storage since (non-smoking home).
He's in great condition, his figure line was called "Erin", and I believe there were only 5 figures built from the mold.

He is about 30-32" tall and has a ball & socket neck and moving mouth. His eyes are stationary, tho they are a beautiful green.
If anyone has worked with Kristin before, you'll know her figures are beautiful, however she never cared much for additional mechanics.

So, my question is, would any of the more knowledgeable collectors have insight as to the worth of the figure? I don't know that I'm looking to sell him currently, but I would love to get an idea.
I've included some quick snapshots.
Also, is Kristin still building? Sadly, I've lost touch with her and I know she doesn't have a website.

Thank you!

Hello,

First, welcome to Magic Café. As you probably know from reading the threads, there are some great and helpful folks here. I cannot help you with the worth of the figure, but I can tell you that Kristin is extremely hard to get in touch with. Over the last few years, I've emailed her (her address is floating around here somewhere) about 4 or 5 times without any response. I've spoken to a few others who have had a similar experience. So, I do not know if she is still building.

I'm sure others here will add what they know.

Best,
Keith

Keith,

Thank you! That seems to be the repeated consensus when I've searched for her contact info. She was a wonderful mentor to me in puppet building and I'd hate to think she's not still producing beautiful work today.

She had a table at the last convention I attended, but that was in 2005 (I didn't realize it had been that long until I just looked it up).
Sorry, I don't have a guess as to the value, Donald bought one of her figures not too long ago, he might be able to give you an idea when he sees this thread.

Dave, how did you know I would see this? Are you peeking over my shoulder? Smile

It's been about 4-5 years since Kristen has attended the conVENTion. She has not responded to emails or telephone calls about the same length of time. Been told, her job commute travel time is "quite" extensive and she has little time for anything else.

It's rare for one of her figures to be offered for sell. Owners love them so much, they refuse to part with them. Since I got involved with ventriloquism, 11 years ago, I can only recall seeing 4-5 being offered for sale. One was offered for sale at the 2011 conVETion for $550, however it didn't sell. The last one I saw being offered for sale was on Ventriloquist Central Market Place advertised at $425 or $450 (can't recall which) or best offer. It was my good fortune that it didn't sell for several weeks and my offer was accepted.

It's whatever a buyer is willing to pay for it. If it's something in demand, you're more likely to get your price.

Hope this helps.

Donald is absolutely right. Kristen's figures sell in the $400.00 price range. I have had several amd have never got more than $400.00 for one. She seems to have vanished. I have not had contact with her for over 3 years now and I don't know if she will resurface. She has never had a web site and the only place she ever sold figures was at the convention so buying anything new from her I believe is now gone.

It is a shame totally origional, wonderfully well made scratch built figures go for so little when compared to the cost of some of the new figures( completed kits ,conversions etc.) being sold today.
Life is too important to take seriously.

Donald, you caught me looking over your shoulder again....and I thought I was being so quiet....
And you are right, they don't come available very often, people do have a tendency to hang on to them. I love the one pictured in this thread, it's too young looking for me to use, but I would buy it just to have one of her figures around (if I had the cash to do so).

And Jim, you are right, it does seem that these days, it's hard to get much more for an original "scratch built figure" than you'd pay for the many, many kit figures and conversions out there, and it's a shame.

Thank you all so much for the insight and help!

I'm sad to hear Kristin has been MIA from the figure-making world; hopefully she'll reappear soon!

Tom Ladshaw now has a number of Kristin's figures for sale on his site. They look great.

I'm not much for critter figures, though those are cute, the one I like best is the "little man" one, which of course is the most expensive.
