I'm suprised there's not more talk about this but I couldn't find anything on the Café about it. It's a nice effect and it has a really clever method behind it that's great for close up/walkaround mentalism. It's not very often I start a thread about an effect but I like it a lot so I thought I'd share it here. I've pasted the blurb below and everything it says is absolutely accurate. Highly recommended Smile

http://mentalunderground.com/mentalism-e-books/thoughtlink/

Book One in the Impromptu Mentalism series is:

Imagine this:

You are sitting around and someone says “you’re a mind reader/magician show us something”, rather than reaching for the cards or asking them to write anything down at all, you look down at your mobile phone.

On your phone you open up an email you’ve got saved on there and show there’s a link in that email to a secret page on your blog, website, a wikipedia page or even a youtube video.

You gather some objects from people, which involves everyone even more and NOW you’ve got a crowd wanting to know what’s happening…

On the table are maybe 8, 10 maybe 12 objects. You ask one of the crowd to freely name ANY of the objects. They are given a TOTALLY free choice if they want to change their mind.

They change their mind as much as they’d like and finally decide they want to pick the nice Beats By Dre headphones.

With a single finger you click the link in the email that has been open the entire time.

The link goes to a youtube video, a picture or a post on your blog where you predicted that exact object.

- – -

“One Of The Most Commercial Mindreading Routines I’ve Seen In A Very LONG Time. I’m Putting It Together Tonight”- Paul Romhany

- – -

This has been one of my favourite mentalism routines for performing at networking meetings, social gatherings, over dinner with friends to catch the attention of the other diners and manager – and it’s 100% reliable, and totally flexible.

I’ve used Thought Link to:

- Chat up a women by predicting her star sign,
- Predict which song in the current Top 10 music charts a DJ would think of,
- Predict which main course off the menu the manager would choose for me,

You can literally use this for ANYthing at all.

What’s more, because there is no special app or software at all, Thought Link works on every mobile device, it’ll work on your iPad and your laptop. Anything that accepts email and has internet access.

Thought Link is available for immediate download right now, here:
http://mentalunderground.com/mentalism-e-books/thoughtlink/

Remember:

There is only ONE link.
The link stays on the screen the whole time and it is that link you click.
No special app is needed at all.
Their choice of object is 100% fair, there is no procedure required.
It works on all phones that have email and internet capabilities including iPhone, Blackberry, Android and all others.
There are NO Hidden links in the white space of the email that you’re secretly clicking – you click the link they see.
You can do this with anything, not just objects, any star sign, a playing card and in this ebook you’ll instantly learn how.

I saw it advertised but it seemed a bit like a solution to something that isn't a problem - at least if you are familiar with basic html.

You can do the same thing with multiple links and people would never realise that they were looking at more than one. Ken might have a method that uses just a single one, but what advantage is that in performance? The multi-link method is already pretty bulletproof and requires no procedure etc. I suppose allowing the spectator to click the link might be an advantage in certain situations - but I see that more of a case of running without being chased.

First, a moment to introduce myself. I have been studying mentalism for about five years and perform fairly regularly. I have watched the Café for a long time and got much useful advice from everyone here (THANKS!) but I haven't really contributed before for a few reasons: First, I didn't have much I felt was really necessary to say. Second, I have watched countless threads degenerate into arguments and I am not interested in becoming of partisan arguments. In the end, I decided my contributions could be valuable and I won't be pulled into petty back and forths, so here I am.

Having said that, I hate to say this after what Dick has said, but I am in complete agreement with Sean (no offense Dick)! And I will point out that I am proficient enough with HTML to have built several websites and muck about with code and yet, his method is one which never occurred to me.

What Ken has here is very clean, very clever, and should pretty much be in every 21st century mentalist's repertoire. You can even do this on someone else's phone - proving that there is no app or hidden method here. Just pull up your email and you are ready to go.

My only complaint is in his delivery system. So many sites offer "Instant Download", but fail to come through. This was what I found, but the customer service was good, and when I actually got the eBook and read the first few pages, any annoyance I might have felt at being forced to wait was gone. This is something I use.

I am pretty well read on the subject of mentalism and confess that this method was both completely new to me and strong enough to make me feel comfortable using an electronic delivery system for an effect (something which I have been EXTREMELY leery of in the past as it just seems like there has to be some kind of trickery being employed by the electronic device).

Bottom line is that I like it, I have used it a LOT since I learned the technique, and it is great in a completely impromptu setting, especially if you are clever enough to tailor your means of revelation to the exact situation.

For instance, I have noticed that girls will often wear black (who hasn't picked up on this? It is slimming!) Therefore, I have a video revelation in which I state that after my stage show, a girl wearing black will pick my cufflink, etc.

All I do beforehand is select from the people crowding me after a show a young lady wearing black, and, before the effect, comment on the article of clothing that is black. "Oh, isn't that a lovely black scarf!" It sells as a double revelation, specifically tailored to that unique individual, and everyone forgets that I (and not chance) picked her.

The whole thing is tremendous fun, and is very entertaining - which Larry Becker asserts (and I concur) is the whole point.

Hi guys, thanks for the discussion.

MagicAtlas - as luck would have it (not) the day we released the ebook, Paypal changed some of its technical settings so the ebooks weren't immediately sent to you as they usually would be. This problem has been resolved now so all ebooks are now once again instant.

The effect and method are completely different to Tube.

Thanks for the lovely words.

MagicAtlas mentions the following:

<You can even do this on someone else's phone - proving that there is no app or hidden method here. Just pull up your email and you are ready to go.>

I don't have an iphone but would love to be able to use someone else's iphone to perform this & 'show my mental abilities'.

So, can this really be accomplished using a borrowed iphone?

Technically, you could send them the email but you would risk them discovering the method.

You can definitely open your email account and open the message on their phone. After all, it is "look at this email I received." Just make sure you sign out Smile

To those that have Messina's Tube, what is an easier preparation: Thought Link or The Tube?

I imagine both are practically the same in procedure?

This is an excellent idea. In short, the appearance in some cases might appear similar, but what is provided here is an elegant way of doing this. Maybe you extremely tech savy folks may have thought of this, but it is quite nice. It will take just a bit of work to set up, but once complete you will have a lovely close-up wonder. This is very nice.

Disclaimer: I have traded works with Ken (his for mine), but have no other vested interest in how this product is received. That said, this is an excellent way of utilizing technology in a way that seems quite fair.

Elegant!

I just want to point out one discrepensy in the effect's description. The ad states:

"7. No angle problems"

Not quite accurate. This effect CANNOT be performed surrounded.

That said, under most performance situations one need take no more than the normal amount of care one uses when presenting any other effect.
However, some creativity may be required to come up with a suitable way of displaying the final prediction when NOT performing on stage.
In fact, it is precisely coming up with a auitable way of displaying the result that prevents me from preforming this at present.

Anyone who has the effect have any suggestions? Something not requiring combersome additional props?

NBoisen,

Actually, the advertising is correct - the effect CAN be performed surrounded. I use this pretty consistently. The trick is to do what the text recommends later on in the EBook. If you still have trouble, pressing and holding perfects the illusion. Sorry to be vague, but I wanted to address your concerns.

Best,

Appologies!!!

I posted this on the wrong thread. What I was saying applies to "E1" NOT to Thought Link.

Sorry for the mistake. I will eventually post this comment in the right place.

So, the simple question is: if there is only one link, then why can't the spectator touch/click on it?

Lee

I will admit that, with technology being as forward as it is, I am hesitant to use my cell, since the audience's perception(!) is that some app *can* do what I'm doing, and, as a result, it is not mentalism, but simply science. Is this not so?

Has anyone tried to use something like https://burnnote.com/ ? They are messages that can only be read once.

I have Thought Link. It's very clever but it's true that someone with some knowledge can backtrace the method.

I jut downloaded and read this. It is excellent thinking. And NOT like Tube, which I found to be rather tedious to set up. Two thumbs up!

Wow. I just got this! All I can say is I can't believe it hasn't gotten more attention. I have started using it in my walk around gigs and people seem to like it.

Also, I've never heard of this Jason Aims guy. Seems like he put a lot of thought into the material. Does anyone know if he has other stuff out?
