John Calvert is spending an extended period of time with
me here in San Diego, before he hits The Magic Castle for
the very last time.

He is going to sit down for an interview, to discuss
his thoughts on life as a magician etc...

If you have ever wanted to ask John Calvert a question,
please post it here, or send it to me in a pm.

Feel free to ask any questions that could help you
market yourself, developing character, rehearsal, etc...

He is going to answer your questions in a video clip.
John is going to award a very special gift to the question
that he feels is the most profound or thought provoking.

Please get me your questions up until next friday, August 10, 2012.
You may also feel free to post them here.

Devious, I'd be interested to know how Mr. Calvert developed his performing persona. He's a n original, so was it a reflection of himself, or was he inspired by a certain Magician/Performer?

Devious, my question would be .... “Mr. Calvert, I am of the opinion that most people (and magicians) have turned to pessimism rather than optimism as they look forward, as a magician that succeeded through the depression, do you have words based on experience that we should use every day?

Devious,

I'd ask YOU to wish him a Happy 101st Birthday from magicalaurie and The Scary Librarian! We think it's very cool that we share our birthday (August 5th) with him! Smile

Laurie -- Your sister isn't THAT scary!

I'm not sure what I would ask Mr. Calvert. I admire him greatly, and I admire Tammy as well. They are a perfectly matched pair.

I'm a huge fan of his.

Maybe I would ask him if I could borrow some genes!

I would like to let you know that the interview went well.
We had to ask John some of the questions several times.
Having said that, I need to find the time to edit the
clips together and remove the multiple questions.

He promises to make it to 102 years old.
We celebrated his birthday with his favourite chocolate
mousse cake from Coco's. I look forward to sharing the
video and will post it here along with the prize winner.

All the best,
~Dev/

I must apologize, I was supposed to share the information that Devious sent me in a PM and was so busy I didn't get to do it. Awaiting the responses to everyone's questions. I am sure it will be EPIC!

If Mr. Calvert is from any where near Calvertsville, Indiana, then we are probably related. I am from Worthington, relatives from Bloomfield and the aforementioned.

Great News,
I finally had some time to edit the discussion. I will upload it here tomorrow by noon.
I hope you will enjoy watching and listening, as much as I did getting this put together.

Thank you all so very much for your patience.

Jacob Anderson won the gift. His question, "What moment stands out more than any in your life?"
His reply, when he was rescued after spending 16 hours adrift in the ocean.

Here is the Interview.

He promised to make it to 102 yrs old. He only managed a small bite of his chocolate mousse cake.

I'm very happy that some folks found some value in the video.
Thanks so much for taking the time to view it my friends.

Tammy is the real magic in John's life. She's the very reason
he is still out in the field sharing magic and memories.

I absolutely love Mr. Calvert and his wife. ~20 of us spent an afternoon with him about 15 years ago when he came to lecture for our IBM ring meeting in Lexington, Ky. I had the opportunity to be in the spirit cabinet with him. I loved his stories and also picked up some solid techniques from him. I would love to spend some more time with him.
All small town magicians know what 793.8 signifies.
