I've put together a bill routine that uses a borrowed bill and the Kazlowski Bill Switch (or any other TT switch). The issue I've been having when practicing this switch is that a borrowed bill is not pre-folded and therefore doesn't fold into 1/8 very easily or smoothly; especially if it's a crisp bill. Seeing as this switch is predicated a lot on keeping the folds going at a steady beat, folding smoothly is a major factor. How do you deal with this issue?

Fold the borrowed bill tightly as you fold it; sharpen the creases along the way.

For practice and learning, the pre-folded bill is fine, but in actual performance is not used. Each fold is precise and deliberate. There is no reason to rush through the folding or the trick. During this time, you can make some money jokes or just with intense attention to the bill.
This creates suspense and mystery in your magic. In their minds, they are wondering why are you folding the bill, what will happen to the bill. Think how you will present your magic after you have learned the moves. This is what magic is really all about, presentation! |

When using a borrowed bill, take your time. As I fold, I'll run my thumbnail over the edge that would otherwise kink, so that I get neat folds.

Michael Ammar says he will show his first magic trick and does the old "inverted bill" trick. Show that George is right side up. Fold the bill and unfold to show he is upside down. (It's just the way you unfold it). "I said it was my first trick, not my best trick". This little joke leads into the real trick and allows you to pre-fold the bill right in front of the spectator.

Hi guys - any tips (no pun intended!) here.... When I'm transferring the TT initially, I'm finding it tough sometimes to extract the bill. I'm using a vernet tip. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Line the TT with Scotch tape so the bill slides out easier.

A little Tacky Finger or SortKwik on your thumb helps you get a grip on the bill to draw it out of the TT.

Make sure you are using a hard plastic TT. It can also help to cut about 1/8th inch off the opening end of the TT to facilitate working with the bills. I came up with this idea many years ago when I developed a three bill switch.

Scotch tape makes all the difference. I even used a piece of mousetape on another TT and that's even better! Bill slides out easily. I always had difficulty with this because of extremely dry skin. Not a problem anymore.
