As my $450 bike was stolen this week, lost all my 101 lbs on that bike. I need money for another bike. so I need to sell my 5 morgan silver dollars. I guess I could use ikes, ponta said he uses florins, but I couldn't find any base metal ones. Does anyone use any coins about morgan dollar size that are cheap (nickel, iron alloy etc) non silver. Ill look around as well. Thank you!

This site:

http://www.themagicianscoin.com/the-coins/large-coins

has a listing of coins similar in size to Morgans, and the materials they're made of. I hope it helps. (It has a similar chart for medium coins, about half-dollar size, and small coins).

I found a couple of replica double eagles (completely legal, marked as copies with copy numbers) at my coin dealer for two bucks each. These are about the same size as Morgans, very slightly larger.

They are beautiful. However, I am concerned about the gold plating coming off though.

Kevin, I'd list a WTB / LF on Making A Magic Deal. Also, TWOCAN may have some ideas for you (PM him). Good luck, bud!

I agree...
This is a good alternative as is a lot of those replica Morgans out there. A lot of them are attractive to magnets that allows for a good holdout and they are not expensive, you can find a lot of them for less than $3 bucks each on ebay. I have a set of them myself I got from a good friend here and I have many times used them and no one knows the difference.

Easy fix until you can get back on your feet good my friend. But I hope you get your bike back so you don't have to sell your Morgans, people can really get attached to their coins. Heck, do you really need another $450 bike, at least right now??? For the sake of your Morgans, I hope not. Smile

Joe Mogar's Magical Morgans are fantastic! At $10 each they are a little lighter and a little thinner than real Morgans, but look perfect. Plus, to top it off they are ferromagnetic! They handle nice too.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Bad break. If you are looking for dollar size coins you might want to use Copper bullion coins same weight and just a bit bigger than your morgans. Come in a vatiety of flavours.

Sorry to hear about the bike. I hope you don't have to sell the silver because it will cost more to replace, adding to the loss of the bike instead of relieving it.

I use Eisenhower dollars, they are a nice size and heavy. They don't ring like silver but they do have a good weight to drop on the table and get a solid sound.

I explain to people that this is the last dollar coin made that was porportional to the weight of the other coins. The dollar weighs the same as ten dimes, or four quarters, or two fifty cent pieces. Not much of a story, but some people at least pretend to be interested.

Mr. Biro, are you sure about that? Supposedly eBay stopped all sales of replica coins in February due to the amount of fraud going on. I see no current ads for Morgan replicas other than oversize coasters and such. Maybe they have reversed their policy, but I don't know.

The Great American Coin Company, http://www.greatamericancoincompany.com/......-c7.html does sell legitimate replicas, properly marked.

Yes, I've studied numismatics, and due to unmarked relpicas being advertised as having "replica" stamped, they have stopped the chinese counterfeiters.
