I am relatively new to magic and I am starting with card tricks (Royal Road first up). However, I picked up a copy of Magical Mathematics and saw a trick called "Royal Hummer" Does anyone know this trick. There is a part of it I don't understand (how you load the pair of cards in the correct direction without people thinking you are setting up the cards.)

Thanks in advance.

To answer your thread ...
I do not have Magical Mathematics.

However, if you wish to PM me the outline routine for Royal Hummer, perhaps I can help you.

regards from the UK

If you cn find a copy of my book, PERSONAL COLLECTION, you'll find a few routines based on TOAC (turn over and cut, which is what actually happens)toward rear of the book. Good luck finding a copy. HL.

Is the question about getting set prior to starting or about handling the turning of pairs.? The former is probably best discussed in private so as to not expose too much.

I perform this trick with about 2/3rds of the deck. You ARE setting up the cards in front of the audience--if you do it fast, it looks like you are just randomly turning some cards face down. Then you let the audience member help you mix it more (by asking whether or not to flip pairs of cards). Then I deal the cards into four packets to show that there are some random cards face up, other random cards face down, then flip the first pile onto the second, that pile onto the third, and finally flip that pile onto the last packet and the cards I want to be face up are face up (I use the four aces). I find this trick, and principle, very cool.

Remember that the book says it will take "a hundred or so practice runs" to be able to do it naturally....
