Hello all! So I have recently found myself interested in Levitation and I am still a bit of a newbie to magic in general, I have been experimenting with I.T since about new years and now have a few questions if you would take the time. I thank you:
1. What other ways is there to position the IT other than uh. behind the ear? (sorry if that gives anything out I don't mean to infringe on the rules of the Magic Café) 2. I've heard of Kevlar threads, is there a difference, are there other types of threads? 3. What is the difference between Kevlar and I guess anything you find in like UFO card packets? 4. Thoughts on ITR? 5. How is the performance different with ITR than with regular IT? 6. What is the best ITR in your opinion? 7. What are some good DVD's or videos on levitation? 8. Also, I have tried to mess with Loops but couldn't really do much, They would snap if I would pull it a half inch or centimeter. Whats the best thing for info or handling of loops? I thank everyone for your time. Hope to hear from you soon! Brian. |

1... Yes, many other ways to use it.
2... Kevlar is supposed to be stronger. 3... Most are woolly nylon. 4... They have their uses. 5... You have tension. 6... I've never had a problem with the Spider Pen. 7... http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=111 8... I never did much with loops. |

Hi B.Ayer,Welcome to the Café'.
You will find a lot of information by using the Search Engine here and when you have Fifty Posts, you can access the Secret Sessions Area where you can get many answers. But for now,...The Best ITR?Well,it counts on what you are trying to do and where you use it.I like the Boss w/Kevlar Thread for Close-Up and the Standard w/Kevlar for Stage work.(Both are from James George at Sorcery)A good DVD would be Steve Fearsons Master Levitation System, which includes Thread and some cool things to Levitate. As for Loops,....mine sit in a drawer.Hope this helps,Mike |

Another vote for Fearson's Master Levitation System. There's also Jon LeClair's Who's Afraid of Invisible Thread? As for ITR work, you'll find Magick Balay's Centrifugal DVD very helpful.

Question #7 - Michael Ammar's Easy To Master Th***d Miracles DVDs are excellent and will also answer every other question on your list.
I've played around with Loops more than once. Regular I.T. beats it in every way: cost, strength, invisibility. If there's a trick they do that can't be done with I.T. I have yet to see it. I'll never touch them again.

If you're doing loops, use Mikasa's. They stretch further than any of the others. They still are a pain - I don't break mine, I just can't find them.
Kevlar thread is stronger, but it's easier to see. If you're going to work in flourescent light, Kevalar is the way to go. Vectra thread is the best I've found. It's very strong, and hard to see. Get one of Joe Joe's Amazing web spinners - it's the best IT beginner kit I've found. Jim |

Hey there.
I personally use IET bands the most over IT and ITRs. Almost anything that IT can do, can be done using IET and most of the time an IET band. Studying various types of IT/IET over the years, Legacy Thread has been the best all around whether tying bands or just using it for regular hookups. Matt

If you're really interested in these thread effects, you should defiantly experiment with both IT and ITR. I exclusively do thread work, and I can tell you that any given situation or intended effect can dynamically change you decision on which to choose from. IT, ITR, elastic IT, loops are all good, and serve different purposes.
Contrary to the popular belief in this thread, I think loops are absolutely amazing. Breaking them is no more than a lack of experience, in time you get a really good feel for the limit at what you can lift with them, and how far they can stretch. If you find that you keep breaking them over and over, instead of buying that actual pack of Loops (5 for $6) you might consider tying your own, and that way, you can make them bigger if need be. Also keep in mind that Loops are elastic, and elastic IT can create a myriad of different effects that static IT can not accomplish. This also allows you to start/end "clean" after multiple performance on the same piece of thread. (Loop) Once ITR is master it also conserves thread (not that you'll break the bank on IT) But most tricks that involve a static piece of IT, typically end up wasting the thread in the process or after the effect is over. As your are a newbie let me also mention that your greatest enemy is light. Especially back light, be aware of this when performing your tricks, and outside in the bright sun is a big no no. While I'm on this subject I'll also mention I read about a thread called 'Tiger Stripe' IT. I don't know how much it costs but its a nylon thread where each strand has been chemically treated to remove the 'shine' thread produces and adds a 'tiger stripe camouflage pattern' to it to break up the line of sight completely. I personally have not used, or seen it in action, so I can't comment on how well it performs. |

Hi there! I'm also quite new over here and I'm also starting in the floating stuff. I read very nice things about the Spider Pen Pro. But when I'll compare it to ITR or any other 'R', what will the best option be? Has anybody got experience in comparing those two?

A recent look at their webpage shows that they're even having a sale on them right now - apparently entering TRINITYDEAL at checkout for $50.00 until September 24th. Totally worth it. What I like best about the Trinity System is the ability to adjust the size for whether it's a normal band or body band. Matt

Hmmmm I have always loved IT, and ITRs were a pain. The constant fiddling and tweaking really wore on me, and they were rarely super effective. Loops were nice, but they were not and are not cost effective for me (its hard to even practice with them because of breakage and cost). IT has always been my friend, but then again, I found that I could not do as much as I liked with it... Does anyone know any good books or resources on IT?

If you tie your own loops, it's not that expencive at all. I use about 11" of thread for each loop because I just measure the thread on the paper I use to help me see the stuff. You can get 300ft of legacy thread for like 20 bux, so lets say I used an entire foot for EVERY loop, and lets say I had a 75% sucess rate with tying them. That would mean I'm getting 225 loops out of a spool, 225 loops for 20 bux, that's just under $0.09 per loop, NINE CENTS PER LOOP, sounds pretty affordable to me, and that's giving a lot of space for mistake I think.
If I kept consistantly at 11" per loop, and got good enough at it to have an 80% sucess rate, now we're at 261 loops from a spool, and our cost is down to like 7-8 cents a loop. those things are plently affordable if you tie your own. and with a decent ammount of practice one loop will last you many performances. |

I second Jim's recommendation of Joe Joe's Webspinner.
and The Thread Bullet is quite useful. I store & use mine in an empty pen.

I too have always been intrigued by IT ever since I was given a "floating dollar" illusion as a gift. I've tried a few different ITRs, but they never seemed to do what "I" wanted. That said, I'm not 100% sure what I want to accomplish with IT, all the time, but found the ITRs to be a bit of a hassle. Mine just sits in a drawer, and keeps me away from IT in general. Perhaps I need to try loops!

Thanks, Dougini. I didn't mean to hijack this thread (although I feel like your recommendation would work for O.P. as well). I'm working on getting back into the swing of things (been out of the loop for a while) so once I've got a good solid base again, I'll probably follow your suggestion. Thanks!
