Really, I mean it. I don't belong to many BBS's (usually just a lurker) but something about the simplicity of the site design prompted me to register. The color scheme is easy on the eyes and many posts are displayed per page (some forums require constant page-clicking to follow a thread). Good job here.
A little about me: When I was younger my father gave me a fairly complete library of magic books (most were hardback, including one by Hoffman), with the books was also a trunk-full of tricks (all of professional quality). Being only about 8-9 yrs old I was enthralled and dove in deep for several years. Somewhere in my teens, life intrevened and I moved onto to other pursuits, though I retained the ability to do an as of yet undetected standard riffle force--which I would trot out on occasion over the years. Now, in my forties, I have came back to the hobby. Unfortunately, I no longer have my father's magic set, or library (I do have many eBooks, but wish I still had hardcopies--notes in margins and all). When I was younger I loved the gimmicks and gags. This time around, I am most interested in pure sleight of hand--centering mostly around coin manipulation. Just wanted to introduce myself and say hi! |

Thanks for the welcomes. I love the camadarie that exists within magic. Sure, there are always "closely guarded secrets" and pet techniques or modifications, but it seems like magicians really delight in sharing knowledge and spreading smiles.
Another cool thing about magic is that it encompasses so many areas. You can practice a sleight for thousands of hours and still have much to learn before it could ever be shown publicly. Presentation is a hard-won skill as well. Plus, in the case of coins, once something is learned with one hand then the skill must be transfered to the other hand as well. I have so much to learn and at times it seems impossible, but it only takes a glimpse of the level of skill others have achieved and inspiration strikes again. PS Before I joined, I lurked and was impressed with the quality of folk here. |

LoL, cheers, Dr.TORA, last time I had Turkish coffee was in Aswan, years ago...it *is* the human aspect and kindness that makes this site unique. It's evident in Steve Brooks` Greetings msg (special announcemnt sect.) and it's evident in the many, many posts in the different sections from members.
All of this is good, because I'm sure I'll have tons of questions along the way. |
