I volunteer at the local Association for the blind, and have been thinking
about tricks that I can perform for the blind. I do have some ideas and there is a thread on the Café that talks about it. But, would you guys think about our Tenyo tricks and come up with any that might be used or modified to be shown to those with no sight. As always, THANK YOU Ed ie- Fortune Sticks- mark the sides with braile letters that they hold in their fist and I can't see. Surrounded by others who would confirm that the tops arent marked. |

"shown to those with no sight" That would be a good one right there.
I never thought about it, where is this thread they talk about it? Maybe a rattle box might work like Trap Box some how. Be interested to know what you find that will work.

Here is the link:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......um=41&15 there are others but none that might use our Tenyos. We have also been talking about 'Tenyo like', so if anyone has an idea on how to use these, please let me know. Ed |

Pen is great for this as I use the presentation where the spectator closes there eyes... On that note and Ed this may have been mentioned on another thread but "Power of Darkness" is ideal for this. Not cheap but Promystics Evolution could be adapted for this using Braile.

John,
Just bought Magic Die Prediction from the tricks forum. Which is electronic based like promystic that I can use. http://www.my-magicshop.com/buy-magic/ma......tion.php Watched the video Powers of Darkness - Mike Caveney. Very interesting and very funny. I like it! A lot. http://www.mcmagicwords.com/tricks_powers.html I included the links in case anyone else is interested. THANK YOU, Ed |

Great Ed, I have the Caveney props and have been fortunate to see him perform it live. Thanks for posting the link.
Good luck, you are doing a cool thing. John |

Hi all, thanks for the ideas. From my own research and the help I've gotten from you guys & other Café members I've almost got enough tricks for a one-on-one magic show for a blind person. Cool huh?
I posted this idea elsewhere, but it is one of my favorites that I came accross so I thought I'd share it here too Cut and Restored Rope: Effect: A 5-foot length of rope is cleanly cut in two pieces. Each piece is placed into a change bag and when removed it is restored back to one solid length! Method: Simply have a duplicate length of rope hidden inside your change bag. Cut the extra piece in half and place into the change bag. Perform the change and reveal it has been restored completely. I'm sure there is more I can do with the change bag. PS- Turns out there are 3 Tenyo tricks that will work well: Paradox, Glass Board & Shrinking Pen Thanks everyone. Ed |

John, PS, only about 10% of the blind read braille. In fact, since the Association for the Blind is a public service organization, many of those I work with are either illiterate or only have some basic education. Very hard to get a good education when you are underprivileged and handicapped.
That meant many of the mind reading and math tricks couldn't be used. Having said that, I just bought a deck of braille cards for those who can read it. Now I'm hunting for a couple good card tricks for them. |

Ed, thanks for the update. Sounds like you are making great progress and again I think you are doing a very admirable thing here. Providing a sense of wonderment to a sight impaired person is pretty cool. As you progress with this it would make a great article for one of the magic magazines.
Card tricks with a braille deck is a very interesting challenge. One effect that comes to mind is an ace cutting effect where the spectator cuts to the aces. There are numerous versions and some that are quite easy. Keep us posted. John |

Ed:
I also think you are doing something incredible making the miracle of magic possible for people that never have been able to enjoy an art form that is generally designed to entertain sighted people only. The braille cards is brilliant idea. Maybe you can come up with some packet cards tricks to make it so there isn't so many cards for them to have to search through or deal with. The change bag is also excellent. Good Job Richard
