This is just a question regarding the pros and cons of both of these items. I am planning on getting Shattered but now that there is a jumbo version I am not sure which one to get.
A little help please ! I want to hopefully get a hold of one of them before Halloween.
Thanks guys,

GlenD

Both are nice paddle tricks. The effects while similar but not identical. Both effects are straightforward and easy for an audience to follow.

“Shattered” (the “regular” version) is a multi phase routine where you actually give the prop out showing it to be intact before the breaking bit.

The prop is similar in size to a Hot Rod. That is it is about 3 inches long (7.5 cm) by about a half an inch (1.27 cm). You get two rods (paddles?) and some broken bits of mirror. It is best performed as a close-up routine (as with any Hot Rod routine).

“Jumbo Shattered” is more a parlor/platform/small venue trick. It is a single prop that doe not include a handing out phase. It can be performed as a close up trick also.

The prop is a sort of elongated triangle shard of mirror. It is about 10 inches (25.4 cm) long by about 2.5 inches (6 cm) wide at its widest part. The shape was designed to be able to perform the paddle move with a fair amount of ease.

Which to get? I have both, use both, and like both very much. I tend to use the Jumbo version a bit more. But then I tend to be more a stand-up, parlor, club, small venue magician. Heck I tend to stand-up even when doing close-up.

Both versions of the trick get high marks from me and are highly recommended. Shattered (both versions) has become my favorite paddle trick(s).

I guess you will have to decide what type of magic (venue) you tend to perform most often if you are going to limit yourself to only one version. IF you perform mainly close-up magic (table hopping, one-on-one, small group, etc.) then the longer routine Shattered (regular) is for you. If, on the other hand, you are a parlor (street, club, platform, small venue) magician then it’s the Jumbo you will require.

I don’t think that you will be disappointed with either version. Chance Wolf has given us a winner here

Thank you very much for your well written reply, Harry.
I am still a little uncertain but I need to get one on order SOON if I want to have a chance of getting it before Halloween.
I am not real proficient with the paddle move and the various ways of twisting and turning the items being used so I am thinking the smaller version may be a little easier to handle?? It seems a little more versatile also, other than the fact that it is smaller and could'nt be used for parlor/stage.
Do you have an opinion on which may be a little easier in handling?
Thanks,

GlenD

Harry got it right (as he usually does....) the only thing I didn't see in his description of Shattered is the extra peices that you also get, which allow you a third phase. I don't know if talking about them would be too revealing, but PM me if you don't already know what comes with Shattered.

I also have them both, and I use them both. Chance actually decided to release teh Jumbo Shattered after I complained that the only thing wrong with Shattered was that it was too small. I use Shattered for close up (which I don't do much of), and I use Jumbo for the Street, or any time I play to a larger crowd.

The traditional paddle move is far easier to do with Shattered, and Chance gives you a couple of other very workable variations to the paddle move.

The handling on Jumbo Shattered requires a bit more practice even if you already do the paddle move, and I have been doing it with Hot Rods for many years. But the difference is a matter of scale, which affects angles, and speed, etc. Not that it is all that hard. But it is different. And if I have not done it for a week or so, I always practice a bit before I go out with it again, just to retrain myself to the difference in handling.

Starting out, especially if you regularly do a lot of closeup, the regular Shattered is probably your best bet. And you WILL love it.

Your input is much appreciated BroDavid.
I was kind of leaning that way too. I am convinced in getting Shattered and maybe jumbo later on.
Update ! I just ordered Shattered and it is going to be on it's way.

Glen,
I just noticed this thread and thought you will be happy to know I will be sure to have it in the mail, priority, so you can get it ASAP!! I think it is a wise choice purchasing the smaller version. The PM I describe is very easy and very natural. Remember, you DO NOT have to perform all phases of this routine. Just practice as much as you can before Halloween and I am sure you will do well. I usually just do a cuople cracking phases and end with the mirror returning to the bag and pass it out for examination.
Practice the "Shattered Pieces" move after Halloween.
Harry,
Thank you for the detailed review and high recommendation! It means a lot to me as I truly respect your opinion.
David...who says the squeeky wheel doesn't get the grease?! Thanks for the inspiration of Jumbo Shattered. It really turned out very cool and has made a lot of magicians very happy. The response has been 100% POSITIVE! Thank God Smile
Take care guys,

Well, that's what I call service ! I sort of figured I would not have it in time for the Halloween gig that I have coming up but I still wanted to go ahead and get it anyways. I have been wanting to get this trick for quite a while now. I really appreciate you're thoughtfulness and the effort in trying to get this to me sooner.
I am really anxious to get it now too and start playing with it. It's just like getting a new toy when we were kids!

Glen, I don't think that you can go wrong with your choice.

Just as an aside. I performed at the local annual Halloween Parade last night doing sort of a street act. Jumbo Shattered was one of the tricks that I used.

Having a shard of mirror to test for Vampires really worked. The glass would break if a Vampire were found (as many were over the course of the evening). Needless to say, it worked well for the venue.

I think that the prop lends itself to many types of presentation themes. Honestly I don’t find doing the paddle move difficult at all with the Jumbo version. But then, I find that I can use Daryl’s Knives easily too!

Chance, you made a real winner here! I love the prop (I love both of them!)!
