Hi Shawn,

We met at the Devon Circle's 75th celebration last year. (I am the balloon guy!).

So Shawn, what or who makes you laugh?

best wishes
Danny

Hey Danny,

I recall meeting you at the convention. Great question about what makes me laugh.

Comedy is a real hard thing to explain. It is very subjective and often doesn't translate from one country to another.
For me I like to laugh at things that I can relate to as a person.
Situational comedy is much funnier to me than just a stand up joke.
As a young man I worked a lot in Comedy Clubs and saw some of the best comedians die the death of silence on any given night.
Material that worked the night before sometimes didn't play for an audience from the same area.
My favourite comedy magician right now is Mac King.
I have seen Mac's show countless times and he never ceases to make me laugh.
David Williamson and David Stone are also hilarious magicians.
Although they have passed away I will always love the comedy of Terry Seabrooke, Karrell Fox and Billy McComb.
I have a few really great stories about Billy ...

Last week I introduced my daughter Hannah to Lucile Ball and this week were going to watch Abbott and Costello.
If we have enough time this week I'd love her to see Laurel and Hardy's, A Haunting We Will Go with Dante.
It's sad that she is already eleven years old and had no idea about these great performers ... bad Dad. lol

If you have a little time check out these moments with Billy:

Hi Shawn,

Don't forget to introduce Hannah to Dick Van Dyke. I loved CHitty Chitty Bang Bang when I was a kid. He is also a very good amateur magician...

Hi Topchange,

We have watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang a half a dozen times! It is based on a three boo series by Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond Series, for his son Caspar. In fact Albert Broccoli, who produced the Bond films also produced the movie! A few years back we went to London to see Mary Poppins so I could see Jim Steinmeyer's magic touches to the play! Wow. Only thing missing was Dick Van Dyke...

Hi Shawn,

How about the 3 stooges and also Jackie Gleason doing some of his magic? Hilarious stuff.

Hey Ray,

Three stooges yes, but I have never shown here any Gleason... nice idea.

Danny, glad you liked watching Billy. I have the most brilliant Billy story EVER.
Maybe I'll post that in the question about anecdotes...

Great choices of comic geniuses to show Hannah! Don't forget the Marx Brothers!

Mark,

Back in the day, I had a "brush with greatest" moment.
My Father-in Law did upscale renovations on homes in the Palm Springs, California area.
He invited me along one day to see Bob Hope's home and another guy named Richard Marx.
I was thinking it was the musician but it turned out to he Harpo's Marx's relative!
We had a super long talk and we listened to an album of harp music Harpo had released. (Harpo in Hi-Fi)
To end the visit he let me play in his Harpo's prop chest...
I asked about the Harp but Harpo had donated it to the State of Israel.
I will always remember playing with a giant telescope that bent in all directions with a huge eye on the end...

Shawn,

As others have suggested, you've got to write a book! I, for one, would buy it. I might even read it!

I would also like to see you write a book. I might even illustrate it and/or do the photography for you.

Here is another vote for you to write a book.
