I just finished viewing a tape of Mickey doing the retention of vision stuff. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! This is truly amazing coin work. I love the bit where he goes back to show that the coin is really there. The amazing thing is that it wasn't there! He just makes you believe that it was...
The coin to mouth, hand etc. are just amazing looking. This is what it would look like if you could REALLY DO IT by magic. It doesn't get better than that. Bravo Mickey! Mike

Bob,
I received mine personally from Mr. Silver. I'm sure everyone else got theirs the same way. I'm sure if you pm'd Mickey, he would probably try and help you out. -Bill |

Thanks Bill. As a matter of fact, Mr. Silver pm'd me offering me a tape. Incredibly generous guy!
Can't wait to see it.

I have been watching Mickey's variation of his illusive retention vanish, the one with the coin in his hand. After viewing it over and over on slow motion, I have come to realize that Mickey is using a gaffed Silver dollar. What I mean is I believe one side of the coin is painted a flesh color to match his skin on his hand. That's why the coin appears and vanishes so quickly. Does anyone else agree with me? I ran the video clip-- frame by frame in order to come up with this. Mickey asked for feed back, I'm just being honest.

Jim,
Your idea about a gaffed coin with a flesh-colored back is interesting (and is, in fact, on the market), but it's not Mickey's method for the retention. I saw him do it up close and personal at the Las Vegas Magic Invitational, as well as on tape. It's pure (and flawless) sleight of hand. Cheers, Jerry |

I am not fortunate enough to have seen Mickey's work. What exactly is his new take on the retention? How exactly does it differ?
Thanks Doug McKenzie |

Somewhere in MA, Mickey is reading that comment about someone suspecting the use of a gaffed coin in the video.
I hope he takes it as a compliment. While such a gaff might work well on lo-res video or from a distance, his sleight of hand also works quite well close up for real people, which is how he performs.

When I mentioned the coin gaff, I meant no disrespect for Mr. Silver. It's just that I've watched videos by David Roth and Mickey's vanish was so much cleaner than David's. I just couldn't wrap my mind around the concept that something this clean could be achieved by skill alone. I hope Mickey did not take any offense over my comments.

I was there in LVMI when Micky taught a bunch of the guys on his retention vanish. I think it's very standerd in mechanics but he does it very, very well. It's not something new like you hide in thumb clip or something, just his method gets rid of the hand movement when retracting the coin.
Trust me, no trick coin is involved. Now one of these days I hope he puts a clip on of his "slot machine", kicked the **** out of me. Tony C. |

I finally got to see Mickey's tape a few days ago. It was worth the wait!! Really unbelievable.
He clearly has that move down pat. And I've never seen anyone else to that "proving" move where he shows(?) that the coin really is in the left hand. Brilliant! I've watched that tape over and over. Can't wait to learn that move from Mickey...if only to be able to do that coin to mouth!!! Thanks a million, Mickey! Bob

Mickey's video is astounding and his advice on the retention will help improve anyone's work. I hope all can get a chance to see it.

I am consistently fooled because Mickey has, as JonTown noted, designed his moves to fit HIS own natural mannerisms and movements. To me, Mickey's work epitomizes the Vernon advice to be natural. This has come only with countless hours of study by Mickey of Mickey. We should all strive to do this to avoid the out of place and unnatural moves that occur when we practice to deceive. Learn the move as you would do it. I found Mickey's 3 coin trick with his click retention to be one of my favorites. Mickey, we are all out here waiting for more. And just like Christmas, we can hardly wait. Don't let it be long. S
