Heya folks!
My name is Jay Buchanan and I am coming off a 3 year leave from magic. I worked close up at restaurants for 3 years and did a club date act as well as the occasional childrens party. At the height of my performing career, I learned one of my major weaknesses was the "business" side of the art. I was doing an average of 3 shows a day, plus working the tables and bars every night, and making a very good living at 28 years old. Then I made some really bad investments, I dumped a lot of money into things that didn't really matter and I began getting lazy and turning down shows. Suddenly I was faced with bankruptcy and my whole world fell apart in front of me. Luckily, my wife stuck with me, and she never stopped cheering me on. Now, 3 years later, I am getting back into the scene. I now know a little more about my strengths and weaknesses. Hopefully I wont have too much trouble breaking back into the scene, I have contacted some of my previous clients and they are psyched about my return. I stumbled upon this forum and am very happy to have a place to hang with you all, there seem to be some incredible personalities and wisdom showing their faces around here. Anyway, enough dribble from me, it's great to be back!

Thanks for the warm welcome!
I got in touch with my old friend Denny (Denny & Lee), and found out that a lot has changed since I stepped out of the light 3 years ago. For one thing, Sidewalk Shuffle is out of production??? I used this in every single performance, close-up or stage, I always had it with me and I always performed it. Does anyone know the scoop on this? Is it coming back? I checked all the well known shops and nobody was really sure on the status.

Hi Jay,
Welcome back to the family of magic. And more importatly, welcome back to your physical family. Having a loving and supportive wife who believes in you and stands by you through the good and the bad, well, that woman is worth more than all the riches in this world. God has given you a wonderful wife! It sounds like you have learned much in these last 3 years, and I hope you will share some of these things with us! We all need a refreshing "wake up call" now and then. No doubt magic has made many divorcees over the years. Your words of warning and encouragement would really help to save some marriages and some lives. Blessings to you and welcome to the Magic Cafe! Joe Marotta |

Well met Jay!
I'm sure that you'll find your re-entry into the performing of magic to be a breeze compared to the first time when you were still learning the ropes. You'll be back up to speed in no time!

As an ameteur coming into the restaurant scene for the first time, I would be interested in hearing any advice. Check out the table-hopping section, or if you want, PM me! Again, welcome! Andrew |
