Two weeks ago USADA published a 1,000-page body of evidence which alleged Armstrong and his US Postal Service team had been guilty of 'the most sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping programme that sport has ever seen'.
If that is not it then where is it Jeff?

I think what he means is that what you pointed to was just a press release. The actual body of evidence is in the 1000 page report

As I've already said--no smoking gun. There will never be some kind of spy-cam video of Lance with a syringe in his arm. And even if there were, he would tell us he was injecting vitamins or something. A personal rant: I have always thought it was likely he doped, but I wanted to believe he didn't, and I thought it *just might have been possible* that he was somehow freakishly gifted enough that he didn't have to. You know, lung capacity and all that. But one by one, others kept getting caught. Living in Germany, I was a big fan of the Telekom team. I really liked Jan Ulrich and I LOVED Erik Zabel. I liked the way they rode, I liked their public personas, and I never thought they belonged to the dopers. But they did. And I really (truly! The semester just started, and I have to prepare for classes TODAY) am too busy to do the research. But maybe someone like Balducci (who is also busy, but quick with Google) can find out whether my memory is correct regarding the Tour de France podium thing. To repeat: everyone who ever stood on the victory podium with Lance had already been implicated. Was he so freakishly gifted that he was riding BETTER than the doped guys? But, you know, even then: in the back of my mind he was still riding in a level playing field. (Bill, how's that for a mixed metaphor?) What is so serious about the USADA allegations is this: Lance wasn't simply doping to keep even with the Joneses. He was basically PIMPING the sport with dope after the Festina scandal. The allegation (which I agree, Tommy, is only an allegation) is that he introduced a new, post-Festina era of doping. Before LA, many doped to win. After LA, everyone doped to keep up. It's hard to believe, and I'm not sure I yet believe it. And for reasons mentioned above regarding possible jailable offenses should LA confess, I don't think we ever will know the truth. Though the truth would be really nice. Personal rant off. |

What ever happened to the "if the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit" line of reasoning?
I know I am in the minority, and likely will someday be proven wrong, but I do not agree that the case has been proven against Lance Armstrong. If there is hard evidence, please tell me what it is. I really don't care how many disgraced riders wrap their confessions in accusing the man. I shudder to think we live in a society where the simple act of accusing someone dooms them. How many "witches" do we burn just because the crowd yells? How many "criminals" have been saved by the hard evidence of DNA after years in prison due to eyewitness testimony? Speaking of DNA, do we have any dirty needles pinning Lance to the wall? I have not heard of them, and am left to wonder how long ago Hamilton signed the book deal? Certainly, he has found a way to ensure his ship comes in. There is plenty of disgrace to go around...

This person wasn't disgraced, except by Lance Armstrong who tried to destroy her : http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/13/sports......wLg+LOA&
I don't think you can read that story (at least I couldn't) and think she is lying. That was the article that convinced me he is scum. |

Armstrong has never failed a drugs test and regardless of the un-tested statements from people who portrayed him as a serial doper I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now. At a crimial trial, which may well follow later, the verbal testimonies would be tested by cross exinition and Armstrong would be able call his own witness's for the defence and so on, then a jury would be in a propper position to decide the case which no one is in at this moment in time.
Lance Armstrong’s lawyer has claimed the cyclist might be willing take a lie-detector test in an attempt to prove he is innocent of doping allegations, and would also be keen for some the 26 witnesses who gave testimony against him to take similar tests. Which seems a reasonable idea to me.

So the way you would conduct justice if you were king would be, let the police gather the evidence and let them decide guilt or innocence and then there would be no need for trials at all? That way would save time and money I guess.

Just because we have a jury trial system where you are innocent until proven guilty doesn't mean that you can't look at the evidence and make a decision on guilt or innocence. The evidence is overwhelming. I have no problem saying he is guilty. The courts can decide the rest.
Are you still giving OJ the benefit of the doubt? |

You mean the un-tested evidence of the prosecution is overwhelming you think and who cares what you think anyway?

Tommy,
Do you think OJ was innocent of killing Nicole Kidman? I think as many people care what I think as care what you think. |

Do you think Armstrong has had a fair trial and if so why is more the point?

As I don't follow the sport I would like to ask those who know. Has anyone else been accused of and stripped of a victory other than Lance Armstrong?
